A neighbor told me that burning the stoves dampered down will cause a lot of creosote buildup.
I have my stove, but cannot afford the catalytic converter now.. 250.00. so am using it without it.. but I get a good bed of coals going then switch to the slow burn setting and drop 1 piece of wood in every few hours.. the stove stays hot..between 350 and 450 degrees. This keeps our home really toasty, around 74 degrees.
We only have white birch and spruce in Alaska..
Sure would like to know more about this.

Will using my stove this way create a lot of creosote buildup? If so, how often should I look at trying to clean the pipes? We burn every day.

with out the combuster and burning at 350 to 400 you might build up some creosote if you raise the temp up to 500 to 600 you might be ok, if that is to hot run the small fires.

Having troubles...
Our home is only 1000 sq. ft. We are in Alaska.. some times the temp goes below 30 below zero.
Typically our temp in winter is like 10 below - 30 degrees variation.
The problem.. this little stove brings out temp up to like 90 degrees if we run it above 400 degrees.
At 11 degrees outside, if we run the stove at about 300 degrees.. it keeps the home at around 75 degrees..
If we run at 400 or above.. whew! Gets pretty hot in here...

Just trying to learn how to use this stove properly.. efficiently.. with out burning down our home...
lol

Sure could use some insight.

where are you taking your stoves temp where is the thermometer located? i don't have the low outdoor temp like yourself but i am running a older defiant stove and slightly bigger house (1240 square feet) and don't have that hot of a house. when i don't need a lot of heat i run a 1/2 firebox full and that does it and it also burns smokeless that way. also when you are looking at your thermometer is your damper in the closed position aka horizontal mode?

I position the thermometer directly in front of the opening for the stove pipe. It is magnetic and sticks to the top of the stove.
Is that a good place?
