Does anybody have or recommend a thermostat/temp gauge for inserts?

I know there are a lot for the pipes, but I have an insert and I'm looking for a good gauge of stove temps other than looking at the fire's progress throughout the burn for consistency purposes. Thanks,

IR thermometer. its really the best option for my insert

I have a Condor magnetic one I stick on the stove top (sticks out 14 inches onto the Hearth), and also an IR Gun.....according to the IR, the Condor is close to dead on

On the Buck I have a surface thermo on the front face just above the door. Then I have opened the door and shot the inside of the firebox so I know how the temp on the front relates to the temp inside. I haven't done that extensively yet, and I'd imagine I'll get different readings depending weather I've got flame in the box heating up the stove on a cold start, or if I've got it cruising in a cat burn with no flame. Not sure what type of insert you have, though...

I have a condar magnetic thermometer that I place on the top of my insert. I also added a simple maximum temp indicator by placing a bent paperclip into the center hole and allowing the temperature needle to drag the paperclip to whatever maximum temperature is reached. That gives some info about what happens when I'm out of the house, or overnight.

Is this for the BlazeKing Princess? If so, can you add the stove to your signature line?

The BK Princess insert already comes with a thermometer for the cat. That is the most important instrumentation. You can put another stove top thermometer on the stove top, but most of the heat comes from the cat when running the stove low and slow. The only problem with a second thermometer is seeing it. The convection shroud blocks the view, but I suppose one could take a metal hole saw and cut another view hole. If so you probably will want a 2" dial like on the Condar or SBI stove top thermometers. Or install a remote digital probe like the Auberins suggested by mellow.

Yep, I only look at a stove top or flue temp if I'm heating the stove up for a re-load, with some flame in the box, or if I'm running a little flame when cruising.
