Thinking of this spot for a stove...

I am going to talk to some WETT installers, but to avoid disappointment I thought I would put my questions to you folks to see what you think. From a chimney perspective, this spot is A+. Straight shot up to near centre of roof of 2-storey house. Width of wall space is 51 1/2". Bottom of "mantle", not sure if that is the correct term for that piece of wood, is 42" and it overhangs about 2".

In the following picture, I drew lines at about the minimum height for a rear heat shield if this was a solid wall. Will heat shield be required up to those lines on the drywall on the left and the wood post on the right?

What stove is being installed and why the rear shield? Is the goal clearance reduction? A rear shield is only used if this is an old stove needing a clearance reduction or a modern one that permits clearance reduction with an NFPA wall shield.
 
Hard to tell with the pic provided . . . but this almost seems like it is right in the middle of things . . . which could mean getting in the way of things. Again, hard to tell with the pic . . .
 
Osburn 2200. Clearance reduction is the goal, yes. I had not considered installing the stove at minimum clearance with no rear shield. Just shifted the tiles around and took some pictures that are here:

As far as being in the middle of things, I think what I am going to do today is build a box the same dimensions as the 2200 to see how it looks there. My hope is that it does not dominate the room too much. No question it will take up a fair bit of space but both my wife and I see it as becoming the focal point of the room.

Stating of the obvious here: The dark wicker room divider will not remain there. The room will be re-arranged as appropriate.

Don't forget on your mock up to include the size of the hearth . . . depending on whether it is raised or not . . . this will take up a lot more space than the actual stove.
 
Seeing the other pic . . . I think this may not be a bad location. May have to move a few things.

Same here..at first I thought the pipe was going right in front of the opening to the kitchen.

The 12" tiles on the floor represent the hearth. 42" x 50" is what I laid out for the pictures and that size meets the minimum requirements. Check out the fancy stove that I built today. The fire is not real, I'm just that good of an artist.

I think that's just because there was one log in the firebox . . . maybe if they added a few more they could get a good secondary burn going. ;)

I hope you stick around . . . I think you'd fit in very well here with this crowd.
 
Only 5" rear clearance with double wall pipe. I don't think you will have a problem there and although the manual seems to allow an additional heat shield not sure if that makes much sense. A problem will the the side clearance of 21". I don't see that in your "mock-up". The desk and bookshelf may need to be moved further away or you need to put some shielding there. Fortunately, the manual seems to allow that option but check also with your local code inspector if he is ok with it.
 
Only double-wall pipe will be used.

Things in the pictures that need to be moved and can be moved will be moved. The 6" bit of wall that bumps out on the left side of the pictures will need some shielding.

I am getting really excited to burn the cardboard stove in a real stove! Pretty sure you'll be seeing me around here, as my wife fears. She fancies me a bit of an obsessive. Not sure how one could possibly obsess over a fire.....yeah right.
 
Save the cardboard for the recycling truck. The ash can clog up the chimney screen.
