The ruler in the first photo is 8 feet long. The ruler in the last photo shows how high 4 feet is. The depth of the pile is 4 feet. The pile was delivered in a 12x6x2 ft trailer.

A little shy! About .80 of a cord.

Well short.

So we assume the splits are 16"?

He said pile was 4' deep. Not quite 4' tall and not a full 8' long.

Yeah so 3 rows @ 16" is 4'.

If the splits are longer, the 3 rows do not need to be 4x8'

About a facecord is missing. About a 1/3. If I was stacking for myself. If you can straighten out the right end it will be easier to tell.

Nope, not a cord. Maybe about ¾ cord. Rick

If the splits are 18" then you would only need three rows @ 3.5x8'

Well sorry to see you are short. IDE stack the two rear rows 4x8' and see how much of a face cord you are missing.

It's a common theme, my neighbour was short a face cord on her order too.

I used my 12x6x2 trailer to get my wood too. If stacked very tightly I got just shy if a cord, I loaded the back of my pickup to make a full cord per load. I measured my trailer, even though it's listed as 12x6, it's short half a foot or so in either direction. If just piled loosely then it's not even close to a full cord.

2/3 cord by my reckoning. And yes, I'm from the Great State of Michigan, but I know what a true full cord means!

(I understand there is a belief out there that Michiganders see a face cord, and call it a full cord, unfortunate, but apparently true).

4*4*8 or 128 cu ft to be exact.

I would estimate that if you restack that all criss-crossed like the pilgrims used to do you might get it to "fill" a 4x4x8 foot box, but it would be getting really good airflow through there.

I would estimate that at 75cf of wood. If it is dry enough and the price was OK I wouldn't be afraid to buy another "cord" of it.

Looks like about 3/4 of a cord.

Huh? My trailer will get a full cord and it is 5x11. Mobile home axle with single leaf spring, thought I woulda busted one of em by now. Keeping fingers crossed still. Wish I had took photos once of the many 1 cord loads. Each heaped trailer load means fewer trips.

It makes sense, maybe I just stack too tightly. But I made four trips with my trailer and have exactly 3.6 cord of wood. Admittedly my last load was just tossed in the back of the trailer. On my tightly packed loads you could see the axle (3500lb) bending and the springs were pretty much bent back. Obviously over loaded...fortunately a short back road trip.

This is about what I got when I ordered a cord too. Unfortunately it sounds like this is pretty common. Anybody ever called up the place they bought the wood from and complained? I'm guessing the response will be something about how I stacked it incorrectly or how they measure it a better way than I do, bla bla bla.

i got shorted about 1/4 a few years back. i called, he said NO WAY! i said, come and measure. he then relented and said he would make me whole. took a month and about 5-6 calls to "remind" him, but i got my wood.

1/4 is alot in the grand scheme of things for the firewood guys- that makes an extra cord for every 4 sold. pretty sweet deal.

it also depends on price. if it was really cheap, i might say something, but not push the issue. but if i payed like 240 or so, yep, id be on the phone.

When I buy wood I have it delivered and stacked on pallets. I bought 8 cord delivered and stacked last spring. Guys brought primo red oak, white oak, black locust and a little bit of maple and Osage. They did a beautiful job stacking it on the pallets.

Problem was that when measured it only came to 6.5 cord, measured generously. Called the manager I bought from who told me the delivery guys were sure there was 8 cord delivered and stacked. I texted her some pics showing the delivered wood to be 6.5 cord. I paid for 6.5 cord.

Sitting on about 13 cord in all, give or take. This is about 3 years worth for me. I'll replace what I burn this winter next spring with some ash and oak plus locust if avail. Lots of oak and ash here in people's republik of central jersey.

Welcome to the forum. Get as much wood cut, split and stacked off the ground and top covered as you have room to store. You can never have too much and it's like money in the bank.

As others have said, three years ahead is the place to be.
