Active since 1995, Hearth.com is THE place on the internet for free information and advice about wood stoves, pellet stoves and other energy saving equipment.
We strive to provide opinions, articles, discussions and history related to Hearth Products and in a more general sense, energy issues.
We promote the EFFICIENT, RESPONSIBLE, CLEAN and SAFE use of all fuels, whether renewable or fossil.
I tune my newer ones (meaning, not my old macs) so that unloaded I start 4-stroking at WOT, then I back them off a hair. I know many people don't back theirs off like that, but I do.
I would tear it down, Get a caber ring, if the piston and cyl look good then just throw a ring in it. If u use the hyway kit get a caber ring cuz the chinese ones are terrible. Make sure you check the end gap. Set the quish to .020 while your at it by deleting the base gasket or shimming.
If no gasket, you need something designed to stand up to the fuel and heat--something like Yamabond or the equivalent sealer from from your local ATV/cycle shop. With the way gasoline-ethanol formulations keep changing, I'd ask at the shop for a tube of the latest sealant version that fits your application.
