First Time Stover & Poster

Good evening folks!

Rookie here, purchased a home last year it's a 1083sq ft cape, I purchased a used Napoleon NPS40 stove from a good friend. This is my first time ever operating a pellet stove, I was told by the previous owner that he always used fire gel to start it... to me that sucks. I don't want to have to open it up every time - I'm lazy! I decided to try the "auto start" feature. The directions state to turn the stove to "Optimal Settings" and then push the start button, well I attempted that cycle about 3 times and the fire pot started over flowing. The only way I've been able to get this stove to start, is with this fire gel....

Any suggestions? I know NOTHING about these stoves... or about pellet stoves in general! Bare with me thanks!

By the way, those looking for pellets in the CT area - I got Green Supreme's $249/ton from TSC in Enfield.

The other issue I'm having is with the fire pot over flowing even when I can get her burning good, I'm not sure if it's because of poor pellet quality or just how the stove is manufactured.

Feed was turned up too high, and I had no idea this thing had a manual damper. For those who said Green Supreme was junk pellets, what would you suggest and how do you go about selecting quality properly priced pellets? I also spoke to my friend about the whole auto start, reason he never used it was because it took too long.

Sunday I went through and completely cleaned the stove, vacuumed it out and scraped off all the junk. She's clean as a whistle, should be ready to burn hot in the next few days when the temps drop.
