I have an old Quad 1000 that has worked flawlessly for years until I fired it up a few days ago.....feeds pellets for a few minutes....stops as per the manual and never starts again.

So far I have thoroughly cleaned the stove and exhaust pipe, re-set the thermocouple sheath , checked the seal around the fire pot and door....all good. I checked the line going to the pressure switch , blew it out ...still the same, feeds and shuts down.

A few minutes ago I took the pressure switch off and jumped the wires to rule out a bad switch and still the same. There are no lights lit on the control box (red/green) so i am leaning toward the 2 wire thermocouple that must be at least 15 years old. The sheath fell off last year and the end of the wire got pretty cooked.

Any suggestions..? I know this is an old stove but it is a beast and throws heat like crazy....I have a brand new St. Croix Prescott I got a deal on last year but can bring myself to replace the Quad yet !!

Thanks for the help as always

Check the thermocouple wire, it's braided where it extends over the firepot...Look for a high heat solder bead at the very end of the braided wire...Also check for cracks or breaks in the braid...The wire also must make contact with the inside of the thermocouple cover...

You can heat the end of the thermocouple with a lighter and test it with a multi meter, or just check for continuity.

You guys better watch this Kappel15 fellow!! I've heard he's a shady character!! :) Good to see you on here Kap!!

Note: If you folks have a Quad issue Kap is the man!!

AR

PS: Just started burning a little here this past Wednesday the 22nd.

Out of town for the weekend....I will check the thermocouple with a meter tonight...thanks

Well, upon further inspection, not sure how I missed it but the end of the thermocouple is fried, missing solder , brittle and broken !! I will order a new one and see what happens.

Thanks again for the help

That's what happens when the cover is not on there. lol kap
