fire starter squares

I use the Super Cedars.

Search the forums on them and you'll find quite a few threads.

I break mine into 1/4 pieces, and it only takes one of them to get my fires going.

ive used gel for manual start pellet stoves, but i very much prefer the solid type such as the super cedars for starting both my woodstove and my green egg, (grill)

I use the squares. They work as advertised. Work well for me.

I use the Rutland fire starter squares, $11.00 for 144 of them.

I make my own. I can start 3" to 4" wood with no kindling. The ones I make burn for 45 minutes.

I have been using square starters made by Landmann USA. I was looking for gel , but these were all I found on that trip to HD.

They work well for starting the fire, although they stink a bit at first. I can let them burn with a few pellets on top and below the square for about 30 seconds and then close the door. After another minute or so, I start the blower.

I think the plastic wrapper definitely contributes to the clinker, though.

A co-worker uses cedar shavings to get his going. I will try that next.

I cut up old dura flame fire logs. Just slice them with a kitchen knife into about 4x4x1 inch pieces.
