It's that time of year again... though who'd know it by the weather? It was near 70 today.

Got at least a cord or more bucked. It's mostly tops that were blown down during a freak windstorm. Big, twisty red maple limbs look like anacondas on the ground. One stem was pretty much toast ~ broken and split all to hell. Just a future home for carpenter ants and rot. So I dropped what was left of it. There's another smaller one back there that's in a similar condition.

This is the first deadfall area. There are three more but they're not as much wood as this one. Once it's all bucked I'll start hauling it to the yard for splitting later. Right now we have nowhere to stack it.

Good work! Yes it's beautiful weather in our area today. I need to get back in the woods with a saw myself.

Nice looking wood there! I have started cutting again as well. Found an ad on CL for dead standing oak. The temps have dropped a little and has made cutting a dream. My dad and I took a cord already last weekend and should have another one by the end of tomorrow. Its been a chore but should reward me well when the cold hits in 16/17!

Started a few days ago with the cooler weather. I am lucky in that I can go out back after work and drop 1-2 trees buck them up and stack them for splitting before dinner.

This was 4 dead oaks I cut and bucked a week ago to pay a friend for a tiller.
About 1- 1/2 to 2 cord. He picked this up and I cut another 2 oaks and a sassafras this week. Love this time of year. Applesister if you were closer you could have all the holly you want as we are loaded with them and wild highbush blueberries .

Lots of wood! It all looks nice and dry.
Is that American Holly in the foreground of your pics?
Can I come dig some up?

Yes indeed. The woods is rife with holly, it seems to grow like weeds around here. Come on over, I'll make a pot of coffee. :)
