Just about every stove store I went to I could buy a Harman, otherwise it's Kozi, Enviro, Drolet and judging by the displays and enthusiasm to sell it's not a big part of their business. The guys selling Harman on the other hand do a selling job at it;)

Let's just all face it!! We're all here because we are too cheap to upgrade the envelope of our homes, and not smart enough to take advice and get into mini splits and solar PV! I for one can't wait to build my new home and get rid of these primitive pellet stoves!

Oh Lord, it's that time of the season...

BB - Who is so jealous of all of those other stoves and phones he can't afford on a hearth.com moderator's salary.

PS: Just to keep it going, Harman stoves suck. ;lol

Hey BB you sure it isn't Harmon or Hormone or Harmen stoves that suck ? <>

Not all of us.

I like primitive fire devices, keep cave nice and warm and the boss happy.

Burning wood to heat a home for us northern folk is away of life. I'm just too old to cut, haul, split and cord wood anymore. So I burn pellets.

And canuk_22 chose the Harman import! (Insert the sound of a drum roll). LOL!

Bottom line is what is the best deal for every person with multiple factors involved. I like the pellet stove option. Not a bad choice all around. It's new to me and working well currently but everything is subject to change. They are bit of work and expense for the reward but not near the amount for a wood burner work wise or utility co.'s expense wise in general. I would much rather handle 40 lb bags and a shop vac etc; than the heavier than hell logs, splitter and so on or get it broken off in me by the utility Cronnies. I still burn wood and enjoy the fires. Cave Man,,, Like Fire! Grunt, Grunt!

SKOAL MAN,

I am a contractor and can and have up graded my envelope to a large degree. I have way thicker walls and more insulation than most homes up in the frozen tundra. However, there is only so much anyone can do to get a return on investment or it is plain stupid. Then there is the time and cash flow issues we all have. I don't see too many billionaires and millionaires chiming in around here. We need windows, doors, and the like for decent lifestyle comfort. It's not all about heat and insulation, but at the same time it is. Double edged sword so to speak. We could move to the 100 degree desert for warmth in Arizona but then staying cool and hydrated becomes the issue. We could go underground in a super insulated structure with one man door access and live in the dark. It's just not practical to an extent.

You are correct though. Most dwellings could use a serious upgrade with heat loss and air exchange rates. Mine included still as I continuously try to improve it. Doing some more of that currently. It's not a utopia we the super wealthy pellet stove operators live in so just do what you can to minimize the beatings you take. I do like the mini splits and have used them on several of my projects I've done for others. When I figure out what type of fertilizer my money tree needs out back I will have all of my issues resolved with paying "the man" that I despise to a degree. LOL!

My money tree is not producing the fruit (free money for the picking) I would like it to and I am sure most others here are having gardening issue as well. So here we are! I would be working the orchard picking my dollar bills before the pests and rot set in. I did have a mini set up installed by my long time HVAC buddy for mom and dad at their home. Works pretty well and they can adjust accordingly. The next thing I will do is downsize my dwelling. Hard to do with three kids bouncing off the walls (2 @ 11 1/2 & 1 that's 9 yrs. old) and we are not moving because of school for them and my wife's job. We have ten more years to stay put at minimum.

At that time the next place I build for myself will be out of control green and super insulated etc; but much smaller and more simple. I am already in the planning stages. It kills me heating so much space but we do use it all. My parents for example use about 1/3 of their place but are too old school, nestled in, and set in their ways to move. Can not get them to move. Oh well. If it was my choice I'd be living in a tiny little overly comfy no maintenance shack with creative solutions to boot. People have grown accustomed to bigger spaces and are now slowly figuring it out that it is not necessarily the best answer for numerous reasons. The expenses and energy consumption for starters.

Harman is hands down the best,if you didn't buy a harman you just might be a redneck!

Does a hill-billy form KY count? I was either smart enough or ignorant enough to spring for one. Time will tell??????? Right now I have a stupid smile on my face and a gleam in my eyes. I am easy to please and digging the pellet thang!

Six years ago when I got my Quad Santa Fe the equivalent Harman was over $1000 more and much uglier. I'm jealous of my friend's Harman because he manages to keep it going for weeks at a time with no maintenance. The Santa Fe needs the burn pot dumped with each bag of pellets. Aside from that it's done well. Just replaced the tadpole gasket around the door. Everything else is original. Well ... it did go a bit untrue around the back panel on the right behind the firepot, requiring blocking the slight gap to one side with rope to prevent occassional howling as some of the hot air takes a short cut out rather than go up around the tubes.

I wonder if the civility here is because pissing off the other guys you're sharing a fire with on a frigid night isn't a real good evolutionary move.

Whit, it's all about the love, brother!

I find truthful pelleteers here and they have been much help no matter what kind of tractor they have parked in the living room! Believe me, if my Harman heads south everyone will hear about it. People need to be educated in a fair and unbiased way no matter what color your tractor is. I feel I got that here. KUDOS! to everyone and Thank You! The big thing for me was my dealer and availability for parts in Feb when it is 10 degrees out and the witch....oops!, that was a Freudian slip and it is close to Halloween you know. The wife, I meant, is cold and hacked off.

Yes I tease her and can say that to her face,,,,, If I feel like being hit with her ride, I mean broom.

We stopped into the local hardware store not long ago and I was there for a new broom (literally). She wanted to look for who knows what (shopping is a full contact sport) and the guys cleared the isles. We were checking out and the older gentleman asked if we found everything we were looking for. I was like,"Yes Sir, my wife was looking for a new convertible." He looked back at me like I had two heads and a bit puzzled that I did not understand his question. Then I paid and handed the broom to her and said, " Mount up and take it for a spin, Honey, to see if you like your new ride. She grinned, rolled her eyes, and (acted) embarrassed. She's used to it. The older guy laughed when he realized he was safe from the broom. Then he said he had been married 41 years and said he and his wife joke like that. Now he makes sure he says HI every time he sees me and we laugh about it.

good story...
when the wife and I went Pellet stove shopping, her eyes naturally went to the fancy smancy looking stoves..
I did my homework and wanted a Harman Free standing P Series with it's ease of maint and extra large ash pan..
we came to an agreement if I spent extra for the fancy metal trim package_g...overpriced but made her happy and me too.

I have to say, this is quite possibly one of the most civil forums I have ever seen. One of the motorcycle forums im in, saying something incorrect will get you flamed. Here, from what I have seen, if you incorrectly state some people will politely correct you. Its quite nice. Probably also a reason I haven't been to that other forum in months.

Knocking on wood as a write this. 7 years problem free with the St.Croix Hastings. The Cumberland worked beautifully in its rookie season. Hope to continue with the same results.

If they did they wouldn't have had to sell out to HHT. >>

We're just one big screwed up happy family trying to defend our decisions to buy a particular brand and why we were sucked into paying way too much for a space heater.

How true. How true.

lol you would not believe the level of discourse that passes for mainstream that exists in some of the musicians forums I frequent:eek:

This place goes through "stove of the year" cycles. Wood and pellet. Presently everybody lusts for a Blaze King wood stove or a Harman pellet stove. Eight or nine years ago it was a lynch mob here because Harman, when answering the phone, wouldn't take a call but just said talk to the dealer. And the reason they called was that the dealer wouldn't fix the thing. I caught unending grief when I bought the first Englander 30-NC here in the "year of Pacific Energy wood stoves". Now there a bazillion owners of the stove here.

They all heat. They all break. Nothing gained with bashing about it. As long as it doesn't get personal, we just go with the flow.

Its probably like a car. they only do update after so many years so someone will do an update and jump ahead. you also have a company like hearth and home who owns multiple companies. The harman is going to be more advanced then a quad so that they dont overlap.

Harmans are awesome love mine completely.eveything else is an after thought and an imitation

A Win - Win is always good! I had my wife over the barrel. She was more concerned about being toasty warm than the looks. She likes simpler looking stuff anyway. Not big into jewelry and bling, thankfully. Another thing I had working in my favor was she was not with me while I was looking. I'd bring home brochures and overwhelm he with options, LOL! She said get hat you think will work out the best. Awesome! I had an unsupervised hall pass.

I am still checking out all other brands too so I can make good choices if the right deal comes along on a used one. Possibly looking for one for my wood shop. Probably waiting until late winter, spring or summer and some one that wants it gone or is moving or something when the price is good.

Over priced bling is an understatement! My dealer wanted $150 bucks for just the small accent tiles on the ash door. Not sure what the Door Trim was but it was steep. I think it was $300 some odd bucks. They have you there if you want it. I know I could make some slate insert or something for the ash pan door myself for cheap though. That is kinda plain and boring. I think the door with the factory mirrored glass is plenty for up there. The trims do look nice but OUCH $$ !! Think I'll name mine Harman Cash, the stove in black. Kind of classic like Johnny.
