My niece had a big locust tree taken down about 18 months ago and today called me to say they were not going to burning all of it in the fireplce. She asked me if I could do her a big favor and come haul the big pieces away.

Two pickup truck beds full. Seasoned about 18 mos. Al locust.

Some if had bugs all over it mostly ants but other critters too. I am contemplating pouring some of my old stale gasoline / mix that has gone stale onto the pile.

Any thoughts on using old stale gas to exterminate a plague of ant in a pile of locust.?

Nice load!! Anytime you can park next to the logs and load em' up, that's about as good as it gets.
Evict the ants with a splitter and get that stuff seasoning!! The upcoming cold weather will take care of any survivors.

I wouldn't go pouring gasoline on it unless my only plans were to burn it in an outdoor fire pit. But that's wasting good locust! Split it and stack it, Mother Nature will soon take care of the ants.

By splitting it you will discourage any ants actually living in the wood. They want to hang out under the bark. Locust bark always falls off, so get it c/s/s ASAP.:)

As you're splitting have a can of Raid ant killer ready. Or spray the heck out of the logs with a strong pesticide or some ortho home defense. Try to kill as many as you can or they may habitate a nearby tree or your house.
 
Ants need moisture. Get the wood stacked and split up on pallets ants will leave soon enough. Let it season as it doesn't dry out to quick in rounds. Nice wood for next year. congrats!
 
+1, split it & enjoy the warmth next winter. I would not describe that situation as a plague!!
 
Brake cleaner will stop them dead in their tracks. I keep a can handy when splitting.

I have also used 2 stroke mix. Bust open a nasty colony of ants? Sprinkle it with the mix and light it up. The heat will take care of them and the gas will burn off very quickly.
 
A few nights ago split some oak that has been bucked up for over a year now, first round was full of big black ants. Since my splitter is in my shop, I took the round out side and used the X25 on it. Left it scattered in the farm yard a few nights in the low 40's, splits are ant free now.
