I was looking at liners at rockford chimney supply and chimney liner depot, is it worth it to get the smooth wall flex liner?

I need a 6inch 20ft liner kit with insulation. it would be about $700

As far a smooth wall are you referring to the double layer stuff or heavy wall? I think heavy wall is worth the extra cost i wouldn't recommend the double layer stuff even if it was half the price

Yeah i have installed a couple of thet type and will never do it again i was not impressed at all

I have that liner, getting ready to start my 4th season with it and love it. I have the 8in.

what was it that made you dislike it

It is very easy to accidently kink it a little and then the inner layer sticks out that inner layer just laps over itself and can easily get snagged with a brush. And i have seen at least 8 or 9 in the past few years with the inner liner snagged and bent up. Heavy flex is way more durable and still smooth wall. And honestly regular light wall cleans down fairly well and i feel is more durable that that stuff. But my choice would be heavy flex

good advice ill prob stay away from it.

forgive me if this is a stupid question but can you pre insulate your liner with something like wrapping it with roxul and metal tape or similar?

I dont want to do anything half assed and hazardous but it seems like that might insulate better than the 1/2inch wrap+mesh kits, not to mention those insulation kits are like $250.

my flue is 11x11 so it would fit this fat home made wrap

you could do that but it would not be to code and it would void the ul listing

That would be better than the pink stuff. >>

wow thats funny bart and kind of sad

honestly i dont doubt that roxul would work fine but it has not been tested and there for is not approved for that application. And that fact will cause you problems if anything ever goes wrong.
