Let me start this by saying that I bought all of my GTP's at a good discount, and well before the current price increase that has them at $350/ton. I paid WAY less then that, so to me they are a bargain.

I tested a bunch of brands last year and the GTP's were one of the hottest and a little better then average on ash, so I figured they would be a safe bet again. I think they've actually improved for 2014! Hottest pellet I've tested to date this year. I'm using my new stove for testing this year (Englander EP) so the numbers from last year can't be directly compared to this year. Here is my test results for 2014 so far:

Green Supreme (Jaffrey, NH plant, leftovers from 2013)- 228.5 degrees F
Inferno Gold- 244 degrees F
Lacrete's* (moisture damaged bag)- 262 degrees F
Green Team Platinum- 274 degrees F

So GTP's were already top, but this morning I tested it again and got 304 degrees F!!! They also appear to have less ash content, possibly the best I've seen yet this year.

Testing method is by Thermapen held at the center of the air outlet, not touching any metal, just measuring the air that is actually being blown into the room. Clean stove before each new brand to ensure equal conditions. Heat is measured twice (spaced apart) and averaged for more accurate data.

* I have only tested moisture damaged bags of Lacrete's so far, I will retest with normal bags later and I expect better results. Every one's stove and install are different, so my results may vary from yours, but are consistent among themselves.

Thanks for posting this info, really appreciate it, and keep em coming as you testing progresses into the colder months. Seriously impressive results from those Greene Teams! Really interested to see how the un-damaged Lacretes compare when you get around to testing them!

I too can attest to the 2014 Greene Team Platinums. I purchased 2 bags to try from a local source. I was very impressed with the heat output and ash content.

For the old price the GT Platinum were worth it. Lowe's is smoking some medical marijuana if they think $350/ton is a reasonable price.. Not going to happen.
Glad you got a good deal though.

Ditto, nice as they may be, I can't afford $700 for the two tons I'll need. Just not gonna happen.

I have a hard time they'll move a lot at that price, so maybe it'll drop back down when it's not working out how they hoped. Last year they were a good deal, and then pretty expensive but probably worth it before the price hike. Now that's just too much for any pellet in my opinion.

Funny...I picked up a bag the GTP's and compared to the Fireside ultras at $239.00 a ton they had more ash and only a 10 degree higher heat output.

I have some FSU's to burn this year but haven't tried the 2014 batch yet. Last years I was impressed with the heat output (just a few degrees below the GTPs from last year) but they were pretty ashy for me. Hopefully this years are cleaner, but either way the heat/ price ratio is great on them.

Throwing in the first bag of FSUs today. I've never burned them before, but I have tried a couple other brands so far this year. Will post thoughts later.

Let us know how they are. I'll do the same when I break into them.

2014 batch FAU's burning now, good heat and average ash.

I've been burning FSU's in both my stove the last 2 days. Here is the updated list of results with them included. I have switched to a 3 temp average instead of just 2. So the GTP's and the FSU's are both showing 3 different times of measurements averaged out while the other currently only have 2 samples averaged.

Green Supreme (Jaffrey, NH plant, leftovers from 2013)- 228.5 degrees F
Inferno Gold- 244 degrees F
Lacrete's* (moisture damaged bag)- 262 degrees F
FSU's- 275.6 degrees F
Green Team Platinum- 284 degrees F

So the FSU's are definitely a great bang for the buck again this year! Very hot and decent ash level (maybe slightly better then average).

Based on the "back of the hand" test, these Green Team Platinums do burn very hot! I paid almost $7 a bag though to try them, but that's ok.
