Be careful my friend. Be careful. At my age standing on the porch is dangerous. ;lol

Which reminds me. Time to go up and sweep the chimney tomorrow. But I ain't even gonna climb up on top of it. 35' is a long way down.

Knowing we would be in this house for the rest of our lives, that is why we looked for a roof with a slope shallow enough that I can easily walk on it. The chimney as at the ridge, so you stand at the ridge and have littl risk of falling off even if you have to pull REALLY hard to get the brush back up.

Same as mine. The roofers last year loved it. But I still ain't crawling up on top of that chimney that is four feet higher than the roof on one side and 35 feet higher than dirt on the other and a few feet down from the ridge. >>

A non-event anyway. I drop a rope down the liner into the stove, shove the brush in the top of the liner, latch the cap down and go down and pull the brush and the crud into the firebox. Both liners. Done today.

Oh, I would never climb onto the crown of the chimney. Mine stick three feet out of the roof (waist high for me) and that is all the leverage I need to get my big box store stiff poly brush through my liner. If I had to climb onto the chimney, I wouldn't be cleaning my own chimney.

i usually stand on the top because my shoulder is torn up pretty bad from pulling on rods so being on top is allot easier on my body. And really it usually is no big deal at all unless its windy

I bet he/she/it just pushes it on down.

Yeah, That's what I'd do. Poly brush in my chimney has to go right down past flue collar before it will reverse. Then it comes back up easy. I remove baffle anyway so it's a non issue to send it on down....

I'm a ding dong. Had a 6" SS liner installed in my masonry flue last year, went to clean it this weekend pushed the poly brush down about 3'. It won't come back up, I can't "reverse" the bristles. Too chicken to push it all the way down to deal with it at the tee, because its a really stiff brush and I'm afraid it will get stuck in the middle (no I didn't attached a rope). Tried to hook it, just pushed it down further. Any ideas to make a better hook?

Another idea I read about here was to replace the fiberglass rod with a threaded rod. Place a 2x4 with a hole in it over the rod against the chimney and thread a nut and washer against the 2x4 forcing the threaded rod up and hence the brush with it. They don't sell threaded rods that fit a 1/4 NPT.

Any other ideas?
Alright, one of you guys had the winning idea for getting the brush outta the liner. That individual(s) is a winner, so he/she gets a chicken dinner.

...curious how it came out?

lol so whose idea worked?

Good i didnt think that was a good idea lol

my guy just Ninja'd up that roof and stood on crown. Bent his knees, took a solid grip.
Straightened those knees and came out faster than a wet cat. So Webby and BHoller, you are winners.

Come claim your chicken dinner
