How many states tax woodpellets for home heat?I know when I used to buy kerosene,I would sign a paper saying I was purchasing for home heating, and the taxes were waived.I'm talking New york now,so you know where I'm coming from,2nd highest taxed state in the nation.

No sales tax on pellets in Maine. But plenty of taxes on other stuff.

No tax breaks for us in Ontario - we get hit with an extra 13% (8% Ontario + 5% Federal). No form of heating fuel is immune...

Massachusetts doesnt tax wood pellets, oil propane or cord wood.

No tax here in WisconsinWisconsin

grabbed a ton from tractor supply the other day,and they charged me $10.00 in taxes.

Some pellets are sold as animal bedding. Those would be txed.

No taxes on home heating fuel or horse bedding in MN.

Several folks have commented on here that it varies by county in NY.

5% in my county and 6% in the neighboring county. 4% is Wyoming state tax and counties can add a % or two, called "additional 1% sales tax". Just in the last few years Wyoming finally got rid of the sales tax on food but fuel is still taxed.

I looked that up in another thread on the Ny

tax site and that is correct, local by County sales tax if any, no State sales tax at all on home heating fuels

Ok so it depends on the county if they charge sales tax

In New Hampshire we have no sales tax or income tax. I pay more than a months take home pay in property tax on my very modest home however. I call it the New Hampshire disadvantage. The state run liquor monopoly sells cheap booze to help us forget how screwed the middle class is here.

I always buy my pellets from a distributor,and it's a flat price no taxes. I wanted 1 more ton,and he couldn't get me 1 more,as he had 300ton on backorder.I guess I learned a lesson.

I will start my search for next year's stash in early April.

If as last year was nothing to look at as all pellets were gone by March.

I put my order in April so I would be guaranteed my 5 ton. When he delivered in September, that's when he told me I probably wouldn't be able to get any more this season, normally if I need another ton it's not a problem.

My dealer starts getting his spring deliveries in April.

Locals around here didn't see anything till late July. I got a call wanting to know if I wanted a early buy on Indecks that I suspect they were getting from the local big box store as they had asked me where I had gotten pellets.

My dealer gave me a call when his first delivery arrived. I gave him my credit card info right over the phone for 6 tons.

Well, we got a good sampling of New England so far, let me chime in on Vermont - not taxes on heating fuel, including pellets. I can sympathize with Bridgeman - used to live in NH - tax free (sorta), but they get you with other taxes. I understand the principle of taxes, but it just seems 'wrong' to tax citizens on heating fuel - shame on those states!
