HD up here near me ( SE Ma.) has AWF but Soft Wood. Hadn't seen these here before. I had to get 3 bags for a fair test. Very good at least in my P61, low fines, low ash and plenty hot. I have LG as well and I'd put the AWF Soft above them in terms of low ash.

Everybodys jumping on the bandwagon , Now home depot has a waiting list , great

Shagbark Lumber and Hardware in East Haddam has Okanagan Gold in stock. Not sure how much they have, but I was told that they will have them all season.

We shall see......

Home Depot and Lowes in Wallingford both have pellets in stock. Lowes has Stove Chow, HD has Heatr's (soft/hard mix).

I'm certainly no expert on pellets, but I got 6 tons of Heatr's and they seem good to me... burning reliably and clean in my Mt. Vernon e2. At $249 a ton before 10% off coupon the price is right. As an added plus the entire ton is wrapped in a big bag, so they are pretty waterproof if you need to leave them outside.

If you are going to leave them outside I suggest this. Cut the packaging from the bottom up just enough to lift up the plastic to get at the pellets. When you have what you want to bring inside, slip the covering back down. It doesn't matter too much that it doesn't seal real tight around the sides. In my case I bought one of the better heavier silver colored tarps and drape that over the whole pallet once opened. Place a board or two over the top before you drape the tarp over the pellets to keep a little air space. I've kept pellets for months this way. Obviously you need some way of holding the tarp down at ground level ( rocks, bricks , boards etc.). I learned this from my dealer, he keeps his loose pellets outside this way. He stores early buy pellets under a canopy. But for these loose pellets, the only time they get wrecked is if the tarp blew off and or if a bag of pellets gets ripped and is left out in the rain.

I ran the barcode on the TSC branded pellets and it came back to Lignetics. The non TSC brand in the ones around my house are North American Pellets. I bought a couple bags of both to try. I'm brand new to this so i haven't figured out what is acceptable or not on a pellet yet but so far the TSC looked nice, burned well good heat, a little ashy I would suspect but overall good. Haven't tried the NAP yet.

My local HD had Heatr's and I tried a couple bags of them and a little dirtier then TSC and seemed really ashy but about the same heat.

Working on 2 bags of Lecreates now and what a difference. Cleaner, less fines in the bag and I think much hotter. I was actually uncomfortable yesterday evening compared to the past few days with the other brands. I will definitely be buying some of these for the dead of winter. hope I just don't have to buy them 10 bags at a time, but at least the dealer is charging me the same bag price as if I bought the pallet. Can't complain about that.

Sent BTPellet a contact and got called back within 3 hours. On the contact i mentioned wanting to pick up in Suffield and I was pretty bummed that they couldn't tell me what the suffield wharehouse had in stock and that i should show up when they opened to check. I'll pass on that kind of service and keep searching for someone better.

HD is bristol had stove chow last time i was there...

I think there are a lot of factors at the moment. Oil is cheap so for many people, using pellets just isn't worth it at the moment. Like many have already said, I'm sure there are people who ran out or came close last year so they stocked up and got additional if they have the space and money for it (bought an extra ton or 2 just to be on the safe side).

Now that the demand is slowing down after people got there stashes built up, hopefully the supply can catch up a bit and we will see more pellets available soon and the prices will come down. Next year I plan on getting most or all of my pellets in the spring so that I don't have to worry about this again.

I bought more that I usually do to give me a bit of a buffer. Sine I've already got extra on hand, next year I only have to buy enough to replace what I will use this winter.
