So I know that after a couple of weeks of running my new pellet stove, that I'll want a tstat. Otherwise I'm really going to go through some pellets. The enviro dealer offered the own, but I don't think it's Enviro brand. I cant' find anything online. Anyone know?

From doing research, I like the Skytech 5301p. I read a few threads, and it seems like it works just fine. Any comments on it? I assume sliding the stove out with service rails is easy enough, but I'll have to look into that.

I also figure, while I'm doing all of this, I should recheck my damper settings. My burn might be dirty, as fater only a day or so, I have black soot all over the glass. Definitely on the right side, but black, not brown, and it accumulates quickly. So I thought I'd check air settings on the damper. What magnahelic gauge is recommended? I googled them, but got all different types and ranges, and wasn't sure what I really needed. It looks like something that goes up to 0.50" is good, but wanted to be sure as this is new to me.

Any advice on both points is appreciated.

Digital huh? I liked the analog one the installer's had...you find it's good?

Any secrets to sliding this thing out too? Doesn't seem like it. Just unclip, and pull (once you remove the ash drawer and sides). When it goes back, as long as you can easily reclip the clasps in place, is it safe to assume the exhaust port has made proper connection with the frame port?

your going to like the 5301, its pretty much plug and play on the m55, not to hard to install. I got the 5301 last year and i like it alot! It hasnt let me down yet, and its wicked accurate, just set it and forget it pretty much....

Thanks. So there's nothing special about getting the one enviro mentions in their literature (which is almost impossible to find a picture of!), meaning, it doesn't integrate any better than the skytech ones?

I have the 3301p and love it, very easy to use and I can use it as a remote control while in the living room to bump the heat up or down, or turn it off (runs in lo) or on (stays in hi).

I just had my stove out to clean the flu this weekend. Just unbuckle the clamps and it will slide out. It is heavy though, so it takes some ooommpfff to get it moving. I have an old aluminum street sign that I put down in front of it to keep the wheels from scoring the hearth and wood floor, and for it to roll on easier. Be careful when you push it back in that you don't push it to fast, I bumped the stove back a little and the shroud piece hangers didn't line up with the face of the opening, had to wiggle the stove back out.

Dwyer makes a very nice gauge but they are expensive, I borrowed one from work when I set my draft. You are supposed to let it run on 5 for an hour according to the manual

I was also trying to get info on the enviro thermostat from my dealer and could not get much, I don't think it was programmable either. It was around twice as expensive as the skytech too

Thanks Bill. When you slide it back, there's no magic to making sure the exhaust port lines up and seals right? If it slides in, and you can easily clamp the clips, you're good right?

And If the skytechs are plug and play, seems like the way to go.

Lastly, to adjust draft, does the stove's apron need to be removed, or just the cast side panel on the left side? Not sure where the adjustment is. I need to look at the manual. Removing the apron would be a bit of a pain.

stevg_nh Looking at you pic, I assume you have a rail kit to slide the stove out onto.....You don't have enough room on your hearth to pull the stove out and still have access to all in the back. Curious, Bill

Correct. Well, correct in that I only have about 12" in front of the stove, but I still need to get the rail kit, or make my own. I can't find them for sale easily.

I have the 5301p. Nor sure if the schedule feature is worth the extra cost, but its been great so far

It's only $117 on amazon (I hope I didn't just break any rules). Seems worth it.

Careful with the amazon ones. I saw one there for a good price, but from reading the reviews they sounded like they were refurbs. Not the end of the world if they are refurbished, but I would look through some of the reviews before you buy.

Thanks. I bought direct from Amazon, not another seller for only $5 more for piece of mind. I am a Prime member too, so if something is wrong, Amazon covers the return shipping. And I'll have it Thursday.

Just put the skytech 5301P on my Harman Accentra 52i last week. I'm new to pellet stoves this year and realized fast that I wanted a way to set back the temperature with a programmable thermostat. Very easy to install. If pellets are not your primary heating source then you will most likely want to shut down and restart your stove at different times of the day. I use mine to kick on at 4:00am to heat kitchen and living room before we are up at 6, then shut down during the day and kick back on an hour before we get home from work. I keep house furnace set at 62 during the winter so house never gets real cold. May have to adjust set backs as we get into winter cold. You'll be happy with this unit. Only thing that is bad about this thermostat is you only have two program times per day for set back and they have to be the same for mon-fri. and sat-sun. but I can work with that. All thermostats I researched, that would work with wireless system had this same feature.

Im planning on using the program to run it from about 4pm to 6am this way it heats the house when were home and is off while were at work and is on full time over the weekend. The heat is set to 60 when were not home so im OK with the oil heat running during the day.

Thanks, appreciate the feedback.

Now I just need to determine if I should/need to check my damper settings with a gauge or not. I feel like the soot on my glass is more black then brown...

Do folks feel like a manometer is as good as an analog gauge?

I'm very new at all of this and have the M55 FS. We ordered the Dwyer mag on Amazon and tested tonight. Let me say that two weeks ago I had never even heard of a mag. Thank goodness for this forum. My husband got the tubing and a couple of fixtures to make it work at HD. We copied what someone here had used. Mag read .25 at start - stove was professionally installed 2 weeks ago. We adjusted to .16. I am so glad we did it. After paying so much for the stove and reading everything here, I wanted to be sure it's working optimally. If we could do it, anyone can!

Ordered a Skytech programmable tstat and it comes on Friday. By next week we'll be in good shape. Just need another ton of pellets!

So you had too much air right? I see you're in NH too. Cool.

Do you mind linking to the mag you bought? I was leaning towards a manometer, but they are more expensive for sure. This is something I won't use very often. I'm pretty sure though, for the insert, I have to have the apron/skirt off when testing, so I can get to the level for the air damper. Can anyone confirm? I don't think you can access it with just the cast sides off.

I think the installers rushed mine, as I know for a fact it didn't run on 5 for 1 hr before they tested. More like 10 minutes only, so I bet mine is off.

We bought this mag: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008HQ4MP8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

And copied the tubing, etc from this post: https://www.hearth.com/talk/threads/just-checked-the-pressure-on-my-m55-insert.104904/#post-1799084

Even though that's not a mag post, the setup worked perfect with the mag and M55.

Tubing and parts were $8 at Home Depot. Mag came today. We opened it at 7, he left for HD and we were set up and testing at 8.

Yes, too much air.

I wasn't home for install. Husband said they tested but hadn't burned on 5 for an hour. Stove is great but I wanted as close to perfect as possible for the cost!

Sounds like what happened to me. Thanks for the info! You too velvetfoot.

Interesting. I'm learning a lot. This is a gauge I've never needed till now. So looking at the enviro manual, it talks about negative pressure between 0.15" and 0.17". I see on the side of the guage, there are two ports, one neg and one pos. I assume you use the neg, and the gauge is swiniging left? Maybe it doesn't matter, as long as you check for the right value (meaning you could connect to the pos side, and the gauge would swing right of center). ??

Steve, you can get at the slide bar for the damper without removing the apron. Take off the left side piece and you will see the slider sticking out from the side of the stove.
