Excellent forum!! Lots of good unbiased info on here and I really appreciate it. To my question. I am building a house with some help of a friend that keeps me headed n the right direction. We installed a class a chimney for my wood furnace n the basement according to the directions we got from the Supervent box. I decided to put a wood stove on the main floor( maybe the IS) but did not have time to put the chimney n for myself so my HVAC contractor said he could throw it n, no prob. He did install it. Well he doesn't have anything stopping the blown in fiberglass that will go n the attic from being right up against the pipe but when we put the chimney n for the wood furnace, I know the directions said to have a insulation shield installed. When I asked the contractor about it he said since it was class a pipe, it didn't need anything as long as kraft paper wasn't touching it. Am I missing something or do I need a shield? Thanks

Show your installer the installation manual for the pipe. I expect it is going to clearly say that an insulation shield is required and the attic insulation should not touch the pipe. Do it by the book to protect your warranty and insurance policy.
