I didn't realize it was re runs for the past 2 years due to his illness. I only listened occasionally but always thoroughly enjoyed the show when I did manage to catch it. It was always good for a laugh and I would often learn something at the same time.

I just got done listening to yesterdays podcast of Fresh Air which was a remembrance. He certainly had a unique view of life. I still enjoy the show even though it's been best of clips for the last two years.

awww dang! i listen to that show all the time when im taking my kid back to college on NPR. its as entertaining a show as ive ever listened to.

im really going to miss his humor. definately have to raise a glass myself.

We started listening in 1989. They always cracked me up. My brother is a "motorhead" and from the time I was a little kid the sight of disassembled things, metal parts, grease, and tools has been familiar to me. My own predilection is sewing machines... and specialized attachments...

A life well lived. And a voice that will be missed. Condolences to his family!

I only found NPR and car talk in the last few years, I loved that show when I would catch it on, the stuff they could get away with saying to people would crack me up. I also did not realize I have been listening to reruns these past 2 years. I will have to check more into into those past interviews of him.

I wasn't really paying attention, but I think I heard that there is an interview with the Car Talk Guys in the "Fresh Air" archives. I believe it's going to be rebroadcast on Maine Public Radio.

The brothers were interviewed in 2001 on Fresh Air. The 11/4/14 episode of Fresh Air aired clips of that interview along with an interview recorded that day with their friend and producer. It was a good show, and I think any fans would enjoy listening to it.

Those guys were my heroes. Much time was spent in the garage on Saturdays spinning wrenches and being entertained by those two.

I grew up listening to them. We still listen every week, as we do to most weekend NPR shows, as we dont have a tv signal since the switch to digital. I am crosing my fingers that I don't get a service call this am so I can listen to the show that Ray is going to do.

Out of all the celebrity deaths of the past several years, this was the only one that really got me. I was pretty choked up listening to the tribute. Any of us should be so lucky as to be remembered in laughter.

Is this the show that had the two brothers talking cars? I wasn't a regular listener but I've heard the show and found it to be very homey and funny. Sad to hear of his passing.

I most loved the times when they actually called someone up! It always cracked me up that the opposing parties were "on board" with the "conference call" (well, yeah!). And the repartee was always priceless.

I learned a lot from those jamokes, too! Several years ago they patiently explained that you had to have spark, oxygen, and fuel to get an internal combustion engine working. CLICK. Fast forward a year/two: our splitter refused to "fire up". Repeated efforts on the part of the good man, but still... RIEN. I politely suggested the spark plug might be "done in". Ignored.

And what do you manly men think was at the root of the failure? uhuh! the spark plug! Two points for the distaff part of the team, lol. (and yeah, I'll never let him forget it).

Car Talk was a radio show that was entertaining with its witty humor. So many podcasts and radio shows can put me right to sleep unless you have a genuine interest in the content. Car Talk could keep you listening and entertained plus they knew there stuff about cars and gave sound advise to the questions that callers asked. Theres one other show that I thought was fantastic, the Dr Dean Edell show. Once I started listening to him I was hooked and downloaded the shows and listened to them on the road trips I took while building the cabin. Dr. Dean knew his subject well and was compassionate for all, especially those that suffer from mental illness and substance abuse and the stigma of them.

Just fabulous! The key is to remember the things that made them so special and so dear. (daubing a tear)

Watching a parent evaporate before your eyes because all that made them who they were is too terrible for words. I get that. And I'll wager too many of you do, too.
