Will the stove fit on the hearth in your current home?

If not, What about extending your hearth in your current home to allow for the stove?

Welcome back. First question, how did it work out in the 1100 sq ft home?

The Equinox can rear vent so putting it on a hearth in front of the current fireplace should be possible. It will probably require a hearth extension, but that is not a showstopper. If you love the stove I say go for it. Post a picture of the fireplace so we can spot any issues.

It actually worked out great in the small home. It was so easy to maintain burns, box and flue temps with it. Cleaning the pipes out after year 1 resulted in the cleanest I had out of any of the previous years with the Dutchwest XL. Previous posters warned of creosote build up, but I can confirm that it maintained longer sustained safe flue temps then the Dutch ever did, which lead to very little creosote build up. Honestly, I was amazed at how little. In the home, since the room it was in when it was at peak temps, was really quite intolerable, but the rest of the house balanced out great. Bottom line, fantastic unit, and was worth the effort putting it in. Though our new home is larger, the family room that the fireplace is in isn't very large, and to have it freestand outside the current fireplace will make it quite the obstruction and look out of place rather than a nice aesthetic fit to the room. I unfortunately am having to consider it will have to stay in the old home much to my demise. So I will need to start thinking about an insert because the current natural vented fireplace has yielded a crummy draft, thus refuse to burn until an insert (or something efficient) is in place.

It will devalue your resale of your old home to have it there for the sale. Get me a freight quote to area code 20112 and I will save you a loss on the sale of the house.

Pop us a picture of the new fireplace location. I not convinced about the aesthetic issue yet. The Equinox is a good looking rock.

Did you ever get that stain on the top removed?

Attached is the photo of the new area / fireplace. Green, I should have used the terms, limited space. This area is long and narrow. The family room, dinette, and kitchen are all together and open in floor plan. The equinox would no doubt for its appearance be just fine, but its size is what is really in question, not its aesthetics. That wasn't the proper term. I should have explained that it was a size to room ratio rather than that. Bart, I want to exhaust all options before the next steps. Doug, I think the stain burned out. I was so thrilled at how easy the stove was compared to the Dutchwest I forgot about the stain! I I could tuck the stove back in the fireplace hole that would be ideal, but not sure if that is the best practice here. I don't plan to heat the whole home with this stove, occasional efficient burns is what I have in mind but that could change, if it will work at all.

Got it, the picture helps a lot. Sell the Equinox for the same $ or a slight profit. Then buy an insert for the fireplace.

Have to agree with begreen, I can't see an Equinox fitting in that area and if you did, you'd be cooked out of that room. I will qualify this by saying that my Equinox has yet to burn in my house, still working on the stone work. The room for my Equinox is about 1000 sq ft. but also avg. more than 12' in height. plus open plan into the kitchen area.

Thanks for all your input guys. It is very much appreciated. I will most likely leave it with the house, or sell it locally. I am quite disappointed that it won't be a part of our home now where we are. What a great product. Cant say that about too many things anymore. Well, thats the bitter side of it, however the sweet side is picking out a new insert or smaller free stander to fit in the current setting. Guess I will search, or start a new thread! Thanks again! Rick

Awesome find! I know you said your hearth pad is big enough, but be sure you have the right insulation value. I want to say the equinox is around a R- 1 (if you decide to keep it)
