Anyone have an idea at what price it is cheaper to kick on the oil burner and shut down the stove. I have 7 tons in the garage and they cost me about 4.50 a bag. Oil is still mid 3's a gallon around here.

Just did a quick calc:
For us 6 tons @ $235/ton=$1410 vs 675 gal@ $3/gal= $2025 reduction still shows us saving.
Warmer too!!

Sorry to bother you! My next thread is going to be "will an oak line make using pellets cheaper then oil". I'm not on here everyday, just looking for some advice.

Fuel oil here is down to 2.50 a gallon down a $1.50 from last year. Wood pellets are up $50 a ton even at the box stores. My oil burner averages 4 gal a day, I burn a bag and a half of pellets a day " typical winter". I was saving $2,000 a year burning but this year I'm gonna take a big hit. " $10 a day oil burner" or $7.50 a day in pellets as of today's calculations. Saving a aprox $75 a month burning pellets. So with the flip flop in prices I project my savings are going to be down by 75% this season.
