Wood ID help please

I found this blow down from last yrs ice storm but I can't id it and would sure appreciate some help. Its heavy and split very easily. I'm in SE Pa

wow, the round looks like maple, the split looks like pignut hickory. I would say , pignut hickory
 
If it's hickory I'm thrilled. It was a blow down in a area loaded with ash and oak. I couldn't find anything else like it in the area
 
It's not hickory, not enough color. I think it might be poplar.

I see Maple but the pics are a bit grainy on my screen. We'll know for sure when Mr. Ford logs in.
 
I'm far from an expert but I've cut popular and this was harder to cut and much heavier than any popular I've handled
 
I've posted more pics if that helps including a twig with a bud on it, tx

My wild guess is chestnut oak....
You posted 7 pictures and they all look like a different tree to me.
I can see why we are getting a range in answers.....
Got to wait for Nford........
 
Is it stringy when you split it?
 
it is not maple, voting for chestnut or hickory families.
 
Mr Ford might say hard maple.
The pics are very low resolution.
You have a twig that looks like it has opposite branching. But I cant really see it.
 
Mark, Ive only spit a few pieces and most cut clean a couple splits were a little stringy but nothing like elm
 
Ok I hope this does it. I went back to get the rest today and I found what I believe is the dried up leaves from this as well as pics of the base

Leaves make it clear, maple of some sort.

Yea thats my fear, though it wasn't shaped like Norway maple or something similar It was growing tall and thin among a lot of oak and ash
 
Top right bark with the green in it kinda looks like red oak, looks like there are different trees...
