well, burning season has started and using up the last half ton of Chows from last year.
Forgot how ashy they are although very good heat..
I also tried a bag of O'Malley's from my Stash and they we're lot less ash..plenty hot.
Burned a bag of Energex Golden pellets this week also..
jesus.... less than 0.5 ash.. they were not kidding...Much Much cleaner
Think I will pass on the Home Depot brands next year and stick with O.Malley's and
The Golden Energex... kinda nice to have some low ash pellets for a change..
although I would burn the chows for heat any day of the week if they we're all I could get.
But The way Home Depot has been jacking up the prices this year is just pure greed as they know there was a shortage and they have taken full advantage of it. Done getting pellets from them.Who knows what they will charge next fall..
all the pellets in my signature we're 250.00 ton or less. HD here has all the lower grade[ or shoulder] pellets at just about what I paid at 249.00 ton..

I have never burned Stove Chow.

HD $269 a ton for AWF ( American Wood Fiber) all softwood, low ash ( less than .3%, 8300-8600 btu), they are almost as clean as DF. The lady said they can't keep them in stock and I said that's because they are a great pellet for a box store to have. Energex Hardwood are a little hotter but not by a whole lot at $299 a ton but longer burning IMO.

LG have disappointed me this year, I'm mixing them in with these others to get rid of them. Glad I only bought 8 bags ! There are some really long pellets in the mix of LG that make my P61 gate or auger groan and me too, they have carboned up the burn pot. But they light easy. I don't get the carbon when mixed with other brands so I'll run them out that way.

TSC's MWP made and packaged in TSC bags are very good, very hot.

Pretty much sums up my experience with Stove Chow too - great heat, pretty ashy. I'm also enjoying some much cleaner pellets this year - don't have to scrape the heat exchangers 2 or 3 times a day! ...I still do though ;em

Wish they sold higher quality pellets here at better than $350+ per ton. I'm pretty much stuck with the big box stores... :(

Too bad, HD in Central Maine also raised the price $20 from $219 last year to $239 this. However, like last year, because of the demand, they've shipped DF Blazers from Oregon!!! I just got my 5 tons, free delivery, 3 tons of Blazers and 2 tons of FSUs. I should have had 5 tons of Blazers, but the driver didn't realize that not all the pallets were the same. As I was the last stop of the day, apparently he took 2 tons of my Blazers and gave them to some other person. Oh well, I can't be choosy, as I was lucky to get any Blazers.

I picked up a couple bags of chose to try out and I thought they were a decent pellet for the price. I just got a couple bags of lacretes from a friend of mine to dry and they are pretty solid. good heat, low ash. Pretty happy with them. Sad I dont have more.

Next up will be okanagan gold.

Well if you are lucky HD may bring in the Blazers or AWF to your local store , if they do buy them is all I can suggest. And check the code on the Tractor Supply branded pellets. Here they were Maine Woods blends and burn very hot with moderate ash levels. I've been buying a few bags of what ever here and there before I start on my 3 tons I have waiting. I really didn't expect to be burning back in early Oct but we were.

We don't have a tractor supply near here.

Last year I used Curran, and was happy with their output and little ash in my stove. Bought 3 tons (269/ton) this year and wow, am I disappointed. Ash out the ying-yang. Other local places want 300/ton for who knows what brand. Aargh!

The chow i'm burning right now is actually pretty good in the ash dept. i'm pretty pleased with them

X2 on this years Stove Chow. Good heat, ash and fines very low for me. Granted it is still "shoulder season" :)

yes.. they are good...just that the price now is getting up there with the better stuff.

Ya well we people keep buying them !! All the prices are up but I do get your point. And too if oil prices keep dropping it could end up cheaper to burn that. I'll miss my stove though, be a nice ornament.

If you got a good bag of O'Malleys then you are very lucky. I have burned them 2yrs out of the last 6. Worst pellet other than Old Dominion I have ever burned. Most are over an inch long and some of them are up to 3 inches long. High ash, High fines, decent heat. For $199 a ton I could not turn them down. I am home all the time so the cleaning did not bother me. I have this years batch of Stove Chow and I love em.

Must have changed the batch..
O'Malley's have barely any fines... Ash is nothing to complain about.[grey/black color] and very hot...
Does have a variance on pellet length though.

a buddy of mine burns o'malleys for the reason that they ARE long. he has the 25 pdc that chews through pellets (other threads on here saying 2 bags a day on low settings). With the longs, it actually lasts a long time.

I am currently burning o'malleys and must say that they are just OK. I bought 5 tons based on price and probably wont buy them again. The heat output is just ok, ash is low but I get a large amount of carbon build up in my burn pot that I have to chisel out every week.
