Feeling the Heat

Just got back from Lowes and they have placed a 2 ton limit on pellet purchases. Lowes was selling Cheat River and Nations Choice. Called Home Depot and they have no pellets at all. If you waited to buy pellets it does not look good.

My lowes has the same sign up. Unfortunately I have to buy 10-15 bags at a time. They have not in any way tracked what I have bought.

Prices have gone up around here by $30 a ton. I believe we are going top have a shortage this winter.

Glad I I got 4 tons from lowes when it was warm out.it hurt the credit card but I had a feeling things were gnna be like this with getting pellets.

Local Tractor Supply keeps getting more tons in. Most recently their house brand, some seriously off-brand stuff before that. Of course since they don't deliver, and most folks can't pick up more than a ton at a time, a two-ton limit wouldn't make a difference there anyway.

I wonder if Lowe's has been seeing local retailers pull up a flatbed and try to buy multiple tons for their own stock. One local hardware store here has bags at $8, another at $7. Considering TSC has individual bags at $5.59 now (up 20 cents from a couple weeks ago), and their 10% off on anything coupons just went out, that doesn't make much sense. I don't expect the local hardware stores to buy the ones from TSC branded TSC though

I think I'm the only one that paid less this year than last

That is exactly what's happening. And is part of the reason for the two ton limit. We had people buying 10+ tons, taking it to their businesses and selling them anywhere up to $2 more per bag. When there is a shortage, it's really unfair to watch someone drive out of the lot with 10 tons on their flatbed or trailer.

Lowes in Henrietta, NY also had 2 ton limit 3 weeks weeks ago.. TSC has been constantly raising the price since 2 months ago..

I am still waiting on 7 tons from my dealer that was $195 ton. I ordered back in June with delivery in August. Didn't happen. My feeling is that the manufacturer has stalled dealer shipments and shipping to who is paying the most. I have had to go to TSC for a ton to get me started. Paid $247 at TSC. Stove dealer I ordered from is supposed to get shipment in this week.

Lowe's gives active military and anybody with a VA ID card 10% off on them every day of the week.

Sorry to hear this, but I think I would be having a serious conversation with that dealer. Not to be overly cynical, but the odds of getting pellets at under $200 / ton anywhere in this country seems slim at this point in the season, even if ordered early. Unless already paid for or a deposit down with a solid contract at that price, you might need to think about another source of pellets if you need another six tons. Odds are that this dealer has been able to get pellets in over the past 3 - 5 months. They just haven't sent any your way, at that price.

The dealer was selling two different types. I chose the one that seemed to produce more heat. The other brand was $30 more a ton and he has those I believe. I have to make a few trips to get them all. I want to get these all in place before Christmas. I will be having another conversation this week. I purchased 2 Harmans from him at the beginning of the year for this old 1880's home. You would think I would get priority. I am sure he has people beating on him and I will be all over him as it now is getting cold this week.

Out here in Arizona our local Home Depot has pellets for 3.99 a bag. These are Heatrs brand made in Show Low by Forest Energy. Lowes has Greentree which are made in the same place for 4.98. I tested all available pellets in the area and Heatrs and Greentree burn the hottest with a bit more ash. HD wouldn't do the military discount because they said they have the cheapest price.

Up here in central Arizona, we have seen overnight temps in the last 2 weeks down to 24 degrees but most nights have been in the low 30s. Last year we had a mild winter and had overnight temps averaging in the high teens to low 20s.

That's a tough one, what isn't fair about it? Pretty classic free market.

If it was sports tickets, it would be scalping.

Shortage still in CT. Tough to even find pellets at 300 a ton right now.

Scalping sounds bad but is quite fair also. Just like anybody out there buying low and selling high. I bought milk this week from a guy that made a profit.

Actually, scalping tickets was illegal in a lot of states. My state rescinded the law. BUT, a lot of musicians who have gone out of way to prevent scalpers from buying banks of tickets with sole purpose of reselling.

But did you buy all the milk, and raise prices when you sold all the extra ?

No, I didn't, but the supermarket did. I can no longer buy direct from the dairy. Now you see?

Just reread to get the story straight. Cant compare straight from dairy, to this. Your not buying straight from mill. Not the same deal here.

Anyways, im stocked up.
