Finally broke down and bought a box of Super Cedars for this burning season and couldn't believe what I've been missing out on. With multiple cold starts a season I couldn't have spent my money more wisely, highly recommended!

I only remember one other thing than Super Cedars that made me want to kill myself for what I had been missing. >>

Depends on what you call kindling, and how much of a Super Cedar you use.

I don't remember where I put my kindling axe. I put three medium splits in the 30 N/S two on the bottom and one on top of them with a quarter or so of a SS under them and rock and roll.

When I do top downs with them I put some splitter scraps on top of three or four splits and a piece of SS in the middle of the scraps on top.

1/4 Super Cedar and a few pieces of kindling seem to work for me.

That sounds great. Making kindling is probably my least favorable thing about burning wood. I may try the SC or maybe one of those home made fire starters.

No kindling for me either. Just a quarter chunk of super cedar!

Just received a new box of 100. Should last me another 3 seasons!

With my eyesight anymore a kindling ax is just a good way to lose a finger. Maybe twenty five cents to just light it and go is good to go for me.

I spent decades not using fire starters. Dumb.

So no folder newspaper either? Oh man, I need to try this. I was thinking about scrounging pallets for kindling but would love to relegate them to firewood holders.

I still use kindling . . . but only 1/8 to 1/4 of a Super Cedar . . . what can I say . . . I'm cheap.

1/4 Super Cedar and a couple of the little waste pieces left over from splitting. Works every time. I try to remember to pick up the little scraps every so often while splitting and put them in the stacks. That way I don't have to store them separately. When moving wood to the back porch to burn. I just toss the little pieces into the wheelbarrow whenever I come upon my little stashes. When I get to the porch I put them in a little bucket by the back door.

If I start a bottom-up fire with no kindling, I'll use a 1/4. Sometimes two smaller pieces in two locations. But with some kindling, especially on a top-down start, 1/8 will do it. Or with any fire using smallish splits, a small chunk is enough.

The most economical way to buy it is a 100 quantity box without wrapping. With the hearth discount, it comes to about 15 cents for a 1/4 piece.

Hearth discount? What is this hearth discount you speak of?

Funny i emailed super cedar about discount and never got a reply.

Supercedars work great. This year, I tried some cheaper firestarters I found on Amazon. Meeco, 144 of them for $20. Work fine, not as good as the supercedars, but with some kindling, they work well enough. Once I start burning 24/7, I don't need them anyway.

I love the super ceders. Since I got a woodstove using newspaper reminded me how much i hated fooling with it when I was a kid to light old smoke dragons. Bought a box after reading the reviews on here and will never go back. I have started fires with less than 1/4 piece so this box should last a long time.

These things sound great... But it seems they're not available to buy in the UK... Unless anyone here happens to know different?

Failing that, guess I could contact the makers and ask them...

If at first you don't succeed . . .

It really is worth getting a sample to at least try 'em.
