Looking at getting my own splitter. Tried of borrowing other people's. In the yard right now I have some fresh cut 20" rounds 22 inches long white oak. Called Timberwolf and asked if the PW1 can handle it. "No problem". I am torn between the 20 ton horizontal iron and oak and the Timberwolf. I like the construction of the IO beefier. TW has a pressure guage and am not sure about the IO. There are no IO in the area to look at they have to be ordered. I did look at the TW and was not impressed with the construction. IO has a 1 3/4"Ø rod vs 1 1/2"Ø on the TW. Not sure if it matters that much but from what I read bigger is better. IO 9" high splitter vs 12" on the TW but they are different styles. Again not sure if that make a difference. Most other specs are the same.

I do like quality that is why I am looking at these two splitters.

Anyone used these and have pro/cons.

Thanks, Norm

1 3/4" ram will have less tonnage, but a bit faster cycle time given they are the same bore @ the same pressure. I don't think from a quality stand point there is a difference.

Thought it would be the opposite. Please explain.

I should drink my coffee before posting. The rod reduces area which reduces force but only on the return stroke. The push stroke should be the top of the piston so it should be full power. My bad!

Love my Timberwolf
