Well I can never resist a pile of wood. Drove past a pile on commercial property and was granted access to remove all I could carry. No tools allowed.

Ok that's fine. There was some huge trunks I couldn't touch including oak but I scrounged a loose truck load thinking I'd scored some hardwood.

Unloading it today I noticed pine needles. All the knots in a few places should have given it away (among other things). Those will be fun to split.

I tried a few wacks on the large stuff and water was squirting out of the wood. Only got a few pieces off I think I need to let it sit before splitting.

(iPhone pictures like to be upside down)

On a second look I think I have wood from two trees. Hoping the stuff with the dark centre is a better wood. I'm not against pine especially in the climate I live in but hard woods are in short supply. Aside from about a cord of Garry oak that's 2-3 years away from burning.

You're correct. It looks like a lot of pine. Looks like some fruitwood with the dark center. Can't really tell the upside down stuff.
