Question about safety items on my Quad Mt. Vernon

We've been using our stove for almost two weeks now, reading the manual and watching the dvd that came with it to learn more about it. The dvd says that if the hopper lid or door is left open, an icon will appear on the remote and that it will shut down the stove after a certain amount of time for safety reasons. My question is how long does it take for this icon to show up and for the stove to shut off? We had the hopper open for seven minutes and no icon, no shutoff. I want to make sure the stove is operating properly. Thanks!

I'm wondering if the wall control was not connected properly. I have almost no faith in my installers as they seem less than competent. Where exactly is the switch on the hopper lid? I'd like to check to make sure it's there and not stuck. The stove seems to feed properly and turns off at the desired temp.

OK - I see something that looks like a little silver button - about the size of a dime. Is that it? Is there a way to test if it's working?

No, the icon for the hopper doesn't light up. That's what made us think something was wrong.
Haven't checked the one for the firebox door yet. My husband thought that if the decorative doors were opened there should be an icon but I told him just the glass door. We still have to try that one.

When I looked under the hopper lid with the flashlight and mirror, I saw a silver metal rectangle with some type of wire attached and there was one black rectangle on it. Maybe it's missing a black rectangle? We have the MVAE.

I will open the door after it cycles off again to check that switch. If that one works at least I know it has something to do with the hopper switch and not the entire wall control or wiring.

Mine looks a little different - maybe it was installed incorrectly. Have to see if I can get a better look at it.

Mystery solved! Two part solution actually. We removed the lid and then checked the wire connections in the back of the stove and it turns out that they put a bypass wire in so when we removed that, the icon lit up (yay!). However, when we replaced the lid, the icon did not go off. Hopper lid off again and, thanks to John193's photo, we realized the black rectangle thing was on upside down and wasn't making contact with the magnet. We reversed it and there ya go - icon on when hopper open, icon off when closed. We checked the door and the icon appears properly when opened and disappears when closed.

As for our smoke issue, the installer was back a week ago and sealed the pipes - or so we thought. He left the extra sealant in case we needed it. I think he used the wrong sealant because it says its some type of cement, not high temp silicone. I still don't see smoke but I smell it in the utility room once the blower goes to high speed, and then it disappears once the vacuum starts. I don't smell it near the stove any longer so I guess that part is resolved. It seems as if the smell is much stronger near the elbow that leads the vent through the outside wall, so we are going to buy the high temp silicone ourselves and seal it to see if that helps, and them move to tape if it doesn't. I feel like I should call the dealer again to get the installer back but honestly I don't want those incompetents in my house again.

Not sure if it came that way from the factory. It was a store display for about 12-18 months and rarely used. I don't know if the store installed the bypass so that the stove wouldn't stop as they were showing customers. And unless they replaced the switch (which I was told they did no repairs at all since they owned it as none were necessary) then I guess the switch was incorrectly installed at the factory.

I'm lucky to have all the help from everyone here as well as a mechanically inclined husband. The stove itself seems good to go now. Just working on the smoke smell at start up.
