I always like the smell of burning cherry. This year I have a few cords of cherry I cut and split last winter on a field edge. Usually I have a little cherry mixed in with oak and it would be drying in the stacks for 2 or more years. It is 20% or lower moisture which is good because most of my oak could use another year to dry. It is burning great.

I notice it has a honey like smell when loading on coals and the smell outside from the stack is honey-sweet also. More so than what I have burned in the past. Almost like I just put some honeycomb in the stove. I do have more small branches with smooth bark than normal for me.

This sweeter than normal wood sure is a contrasting difference to elm smoke.

I love cherry too. It's pretty much all I burn in my fire pit (we start a little fire and grill almost every single dinner in the spring, summer, and fall)

Got a bit today, plan on doing the same. Haven't cooked with cherry yet. Great handle by the way- love that flick.

Nice stacks Duck! Burned some "January" locust already, and have more inside for this week's cold snap.
