Hi All
Finally got a day to myself to get the boiler fired up.I know it's late but life kept getting in the way.I decided to change my nozzle and the first one ended up being the wrong one so that was a couple of week delay.Tow truck broke down so that was a delay, ect ect.Plus i had about 450 liters of free old diesel that i have been burning in the back up.Oh yeah the wood i made a deal for was still to green for this year.
Anyhow i started burning today at 2:30,storage was at 45F average at 5:30 the water going to storage was hot enough to switch the house load on to the wood boiler.I shut off the boiler at 11:30 and storage was at an average of 165F.
Besides changing the nozzle i added a little more expansion with the original expansion tank that came with the boiler.I started with as little pressure in the system as possible. When i shut off the boiler i was at 20 psi.I'm hoping that i will be able to take the storage to at least 185 or 190 and not exceed my expansion.Last year i exceeded 30 psi and lost some water out the safety.
-20 C here last night and tonight.Hoping to top the storage out at 185-190 tomorrow night.

How much expansion do you have?

I have a feeling you might see too much pressure going that last 30 degrees or so - that's where I see most of my pressure increase.

Not sure what size the tanks are.The first few years i would relive pressure as i got up in temp. There were lots of things to learn. At first i just had a large tank,it stands about 4ft.This year i added the one that came with the boiler. It's about 16" around.I dropped the precharge to gain a little more volume.
I added the little one because i had it so it cost nothing to try.The large tank was expensive.I was going to buy another tank, but other priorities took the money.

I run 1250 gallons of storage, heat to 190-195 have seen 197 a few times. My expansion tanks are times 2, XT 160 Elbi tanks.

I see about 17 psi normally when tanks are charged.
