Finally. Low Ash Pellets

Last night 24 degrees] I decided to throw in a Bag of the Hard to get Energex Golden Pellet Hardwoods.0.5 ash. Only sold to selected Pellet stove Dealers.. why? I don't know. But it sez that on the back of the Bag..
Having 5 assorted tons this year in the basement I have been using up the half ton of Stove Chows from last winter.
Have Energex Hardwoods and O'Malley's down there along with 2 tons of the Goldens...so I am used to medium to high[Chows] Ashy pellets. Not a real biggie since I clean regularly every 10 days.
anyways,
big surprise when I came down this morning and saw barely any ash in the burnpot.....
Not used to that.. Usually have to use the Harman tool and pull some big[but soft] mounds of ash in the corners
into the ash pan....Actually grabbed the tool before I looked in the stove...just routine every morning.
They deff lived up to the hype.....
think I will exclusivley buy these down the road next year....
Now I see why many here strive for less ashy pellets.

Have you tried softwoods, like a LaCrete or Okanagan?
Low ash is the norm for a high grade softwood.

Tony, great to hear !

My stove has been in stove temp auto and also manual level 2.5 for the past two days with the warm up here. I'm going to scrape the pot just to make sure there is no speed bump or other carbon. But I have not scraped off any ash. I'm burning American Wood Fiber Super Premium White Pine pellets right now advertised as .25 or less ash. What a great low burn pellet for a price much better than Douglas Fir. I hate to open the Energex Hardwood I have cause I know I will be going back to ash bunnies. But ya I got up this morning to no ash on the pot just like when I burn DF. Today is colder, tonight supposed to go down to 20, I'll see tomorrow what I have on the pot after cranking it back up..

What do you consider the O'Malleys? High or medium ash? That's what ive been burning so far this year because they were free with the purchase of the stove. I'll be interested to see how them compare when I switch up brands once they run out.

O'Malley's are medium ash to me....not low, not overpowering.

don't feel bad... I have 2 tons in the basement to burn thru.[Energex]......Big ash bunnies in the corners but all soft/fluffy.
No Harm, no foul....they'll keep ya warm....

Thats good to hear. They are doing a great job of heating our house with the cold weather coming in. And they were only $209/ton at regular price. If there is no real difference between them and the Lignetics @ $249 a ton ill stick with the O'Malleys next year.

Ya I'm at home for the most part anyway and the energex hards are a good hot pellet.

about every 3- 4 hrs I will open the door and pull some ash down to the ash pan.
just more of a OCD routine now with me....[except for these Golden Pellets]

Well hey maybe those Goldens will become more available or a good softwood will blow into town that you can try. I never expected a Super Premium like these AWF to show up at HD !

they had AWF at home depot here few weeks ago but don't know if they we're white pine..
think they we're in a Blue bag but maybe not..
there we're Presto logs, Freedom fuels, chows, and AWF..

These are a clear and black bag, says something like pure White Pine Super Premium. Then the fine print states the rest of what I said.

How are the AWF white pine? I bought 10 bags because that's all the shop by me was carrying at the time (they were sold out and backordered on Lignetics.)Ive heard good things, but am trying to hold off on burning them till the real cold sets in.

I am very pleased with them now that I am burning them on their own. I had been mixing them with other odd bags of pellets I had around and that wasn't telling the true story. I think you will be pleased. Like any softwood they do burn up a bit quicker than hardwood IMO but still good. Very low ash, good heat.

Do some research on the forum, or make a post asking around...I'm sure there's got to be some softwoods around you. I burnt 2 tons of Cubex when my stove was first installed. Cubux are supposed to be a high quality hardwood, but I was constantly dealing with clinkers (those logs that build up on the sides of the Harman). I tried softwoods, and have never looked back. For my Accentra, they burn cleaner & hotter than anything else I've tried.
