I just called to get a homeowners quote from a company that sells from three different insurance companies and as soon as I said I have a woodstove, they said NO company will cover me! I live in CT and I had the stove professionally installed. Does anyone know of an insurance company that will cover me???

Maybe ask the company that did the install...

Probably not the same thing , I have a insert in a brick fireplace. Never had a problem with Amica or my current company called The Tower Group. Then again I never had to file a claim ( thank God) . As other people mentioned on this forum before , make sure you tell your insurance company that wood stove is only for supplemental heat, not primary. If you want PM me for info on the guy I'm using. Good luck.

Hi There! Did you go through Geico by chance? I had the same problem with them and after speaking to multiple representatives i finally gave up hope. I went with a local company who was fine with it. One thing that will help your cause is installing a propane heater or electrical wall heaters and calling that your primary heat source for insurance purposes. This is nice too for being able to keep the house above freezing when going out of town over the holidays during Winter. Hope this helps!

State Farm covered me with no questions asked or raising my rates.

State Farm covered my house but didn't want a stove in the shop.

Farmers insurance covered my house and shop with woodstoves.

Of course, in the house, there are electric wall heaters that haven't run in years. Not officially wood for the only heat source.

they said NO company will cover me!

I think they mean none of those three that they represent. Call around. Shouldn't be a problem since you had the stove professionally installed... as mentioned above, BE SURE you don't say the stove is your primary source of heat, even if it is!

Liberty mutual covered me, didn't really ask any questions, did raise the premium very slightly tho, not much to lose sleep over tho

Amica covered me in CT without any issues. I think the insurance broker was full of it.

I suspect Branchburner is correct . . . perhaps none of the three insurance carriers they have would do so.

I have Travelers . . . no premium increase. They did require that the Fire Inspector/Fire Chief sign off on the work, I had to fill out a form and they required a professional installation.

Things maybe different in my area but the insurance company sent an inspector who checked all of the clearances and connections. Everything was fine for my stove upstairs but they excluded the one in the basement because it has an 8" pipe reduced to 6". They only allow a reduction of 1".

yeah i'd start calling around to different companies, someone out there will cover you. I know for me Allstate wouldnt cover me so i ended up going with Country Financial and cut my insurance bill in half from what it was.

Jason Halpert, Nationwide insurance out of Windsor?(might be south windsor) CT. He's my BIL, absolutely great guy to do business with. tell him Ken sent you. He can beat anyones rates around pretty much, and no issues with having a woodstove

Way to put your brother in law in an awkward spot where's he's forced to undercut his own margins to sell something to some schmuck on the internet. You would be getting lumps of coal from me for the holidays if you were my BIL and referred me business with the line that I can beat anyone's rates.

I said he can beat anyones rates around pretty much. We got quotes from several insurance companies and he was the cheapest by far. I did say "pretty much" which isnt absolute, it means there could be an exception.
