For three years now I've been sitting on some oak and dreaming about tossing it in the stove. Each of the last couple of years I've tossed a small split on as a test but it just sizzled and I cried. Well, there's no more tears!!

I wasn't planning on hitting it until late December or January but thanks to this stupid weather pattern I had to bring a load up to the house and with lows around 10::F overnight I loaded the stove with an oak and hickory mix. Let's just say I'm glad I scored a big load of oak this year and in three years I'll be enjoying this again.

Cool, let it burn. Put a MM on it just to see what % it is. I'm burning some now at 16%. What a difference to let it season right.:) I think this is 4years split.
 
Yep, had some unseasoned oak mixed in with this year's stash and it has given me problems. Hafta pull any oak I have in the front layer of my shed out this weekend and take it back to the stacks for another year or two. Next year and the following year will be a lot of oak for us.

Yep, tried burning some year-old red oak splits once... years ago when I started with wood heat. It was a disappointment so I left it for the following winter. Burned nice that year.

Lately we've been segregating the stacks, keeping oak separate from the rest. I used to mix it all together but stopped doing that because I often couldn't get to the oak when we needed it.
 
Oak is always separate just for that reason, plus I can save it for the cold stuff.
