Hi everyone,

I have a M55C FS that I've had for a number of years now. Over the summer I had given it it's annual thorough cleaning and noticed that the firebox agitator is really shot. The fingers, especially the middle one, are thin. Of course I forgot about it until now when I'm finally ready to fire up the stove for the season. My question is how often to other M55 users replace the agitator? From what I've read here, I have an early version of this stove and a number of parts have been changed/upgraded. This will be my first time but I'm curious none the less.

In my second or third year I replaced the blower. I had one of the original style which basically self destructed. The replacement has much better airflow and stopped the temp tripping issues I was experiencing. Last year I replaced the exhaust temp sensor. What other replacement parts can I expect to need? Are there any parts I should purchase ahead of time and stock just in case? Last year when the sensor went out it took over a week to get it. It was like Jan/Feb and we were freezing while waiting for the part so I'm interested in being more proactive. For instance how long does the ignitor last? I can see this as being something that eventually needs to be replaced.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions you may have!
Dana

An ignitor can last years, or months. My old enviro meridian went thru an ignitor every 6 months or so. My father in laws Quad CB1200 is on the same ignitor for 6 seasons now. You can get a spare ignitor, but if you don't want to lay out the cash you could always learn to manually ignite it, that way you won't be without heat until your new one shows up. If this is your only source of heat then I would stock some temp sensors, blowers, and ignitor.

Additional temp sensors are high on the list! I'll have to see if I can figure out how to manually light this stove. I think that's a handy thing to know.

Thanks!

I too have an early version of the M55 (August 2009). Last winter I had to replace the convection fan (paid full price), and now I'm noticing my agitator has degraded. Is there a difference between my 2009 agitator, and the ones that are available now.

Dana.r. Wow, the agitator bar has degraded that much???? You must be buying Acid pellets, Ha Ha! Will be interested in what you find... Like you I am also concerned about back-up parts. I do have another igniter, but I agree with you if there was a standard answer as to the most common replacement part that goes on this stove. Good Luck, Bill

My agitator lasted 2 seasons. The fingers got real thin and nasty looking, and the middle part of it also thinned out, and eventually broke in half when I removed it for the last time. It was toast.

I got a new one under warranty, but the next one will be on me, and they are over 100.

My burn box liner also went to hell and was replaced under warranty. The part that seats the igniter to the burn pot fell off.

While my dealer takes months to get parts, many can be found on eBay and shipped within a few days if your stove is not under warranty.

This stove has its fine qualities, but these parts are not among them.

I ended up getting the part on eBay as everywhere I looked online ended up not having it in stock. I hope the new one lasts longer than the old one! I thought I read that they changed the agitator on newer models because of the problem that a few of us seem to be having. I think that and the excessive heat that was generated because of the old blower may have contributed to the agitators early demise. Below is a pic of the old vs. new. So far everything has been working well.

I also purchased a Skytech SKY-3301P which I'm going to run low/high that I'm hoping will help me regulate heat a little better this year as well.

Wow, your "really shot" is an understatement. Hope you have better luck with the new one!
