My son was asking if coal would be cheaper and heat better than wood? I really have never looked into it and couldn't give him an answer. Additionally, he wondered if charcoal would provide as much heat, last longer, than wood? (like a lump charcoal. He was thinking we should make our own charcoal if that were the case.)

Can anyone help with an answer?
 
A Coal stove with a hopper is easier to run then a pellet stove! Price of coal is dependent on trucking distance. So call around your area and check pricing. Now Air Quality is another discussion.
