A sales associates told me this morning that pellet sales will end in February this heating season due to the pellet shortage, so make sure you have enough pellets to last thru this season before February. Even last year, pellets were still available at this local HD right thru to the end of the season , May here in Maine. There were times last year where availability was hit or miss and a 10 bag limit, but they were never out for more than a week. This only pertains to this heating season, because of the shortage.

That's alright right now I'm sitting in

I don't think I would put much stock in what a "sales associate" says, they have little knowledge as to what corporate is planning, as it is way above their paygrade.

For HD to halt pellet sales in Fedbruary is nothing new around here, Lowes does it also, because they start stocking the garden department for spring and need room.

You mean like last spring?

Forgetting the brutal winter? Cordwood vendors were also out of wood, at least around here. Today, every day I am out and around I pass big box and Mom and Pop stores, all with pellets to sell. Vendors stock what they think they'll sell in a season. Last winter caught folks off-guard. This year, take out hoarding and the "shortage" would be less pronounced. I understand some areas are low on stock but the market will adjust.

In our area, I don't know where you live, but there aren't many places selling good pellets..
We have people call every day from all over the place looking for non box store product..
HD is out, TSC is about out.. Have not checked Lowes this weekend.
Most places aren't taking orders... it's you come when they got 'em and get 'em..
We'd love to get a load a week, but that just ain't happnin'..
Every area is different.. Glad you guys are all set in yours.

Both Lowes and TSC in Epping had pellets as of Saturday night albeit with higher prices than we are used to paying ~ $260 / ton. Took a look behind TSC and their inventory appeared to be ample.

That's alright I'm sitting on 13 tons I will sell thenm

Hey Dan have u ever burned Blazer Douglas fir ? Great product for a big box store .. $218 ton.with a coupon . Put it against any of your over priced pellets . Js

I just walked into my local Lowe's this afternoon on an errand, saw bags of Greene Team Platinum laying around so I bought a couple of bags to try. If they burn better, I might go back and get some more but with 2 1/2 tons, I'm not worried about the season at all.

I've heard they are very good...
No need to get nasty...
We pay more for pellets than they sell them for. That's the way it is for
small dealers. Our "overpriced" stuff is still cheaper than the majority of small local guys. Or even woodpelellets.com.
Not many places around sell La Crete for under $299
If we ever become a billion dollar outfit, maybe we can get Depot pricing...

Seriously? I know you're in Central Maine, I am too, but that can't be the Augusta Home Depot. They stocked pellets all year last season. Thinking about which local HD had a 10 bag limit last Winter, I can only think of Auburn. Was it Auburn?

Wasn't getting nasty was just stating that the I paid was a very good value

WARNING!!

HD to discontinue snow blower sales in March. Buy one, or two, now before it's too late. You heard it here first. ;)

Don't mock information. Better to have heard it twice then not at all. If everyone assumed everyone else heard things already then no one would share any information at all. That would make this forum 100% useless.

A sense of humor wouldn't hurt either.

Yes.. That is a great price for a DF.. No doubt. But if they could get their regular stuff
you would never get them for that price.
I thought the crack about our "overpriced pellets" was the nasty part.
We are right in line if not cheaper on the same brands than anyone in our local area...

Gonna have to agree with what someone else said. I work at the blue box, and no magical source just calls me up during the day and says "hey just so you know, we aren't planning on buying any more pellets past February". Demand and supply matter. Nobody can predict what the supply will be come February - though it doesn't look great. If the demand is there, I guarantee you Home Depot will still be TRYING to find pellets to get into their stores. Box stores don't want people walking out of their stores unhappy. It's not good for business. Last I heard from our corporate buyer is that he cannot place any orders and that the SUPPLY is so short that pellets are being allocated. Allocation only occurs when there are not enough to go around and the stores that are deemed as the most in need are given the first truckloads that become available from a vendor. It's simply economics and it sounds like the HD associate is a moron.

Yup, sounds like BS to me.
HD is in business to make money, if people are buying pellets, and HD can get them, they're gonna sell 'em.
They aren't sponsoring those cup cars by turning down sales :)

Yes, Auburn.

The Sales Associate may have meant that HD would not buy new stock after Feb, but I'm sure they will sell whatever they have for as long as it takes them to sell it. EBS always encourages me to buy as much as I can hold, and even though they can't touch the margins of the big guys, the big guys are greedier, and EBS drops them in my driveway the next day

Pellets are still tight around here for anything I want to burn. TSC has mostly junk, HD hasn't had pellets for a month. Agway is living week to week on preorder only. The other local shops sell there pellets like they are made of gold.

Just look around plenty of pellets to be had in central Maine in fact my son-in-law told me he can get them for 180 a ton maine brand I have enough Okies for the winter and then some so just look you'll get all you want and with heating oil dropping in price faster than wally world they are going to have to start dropping pellet price as well
