CT, is that French liquid fuel for backup for the car to get parts or to light the stove when the ignitor fails:)

With all the money in spare parts I'm starting to question the money saving and efficiency of pellet stove.

Let me put this in perspective for you and others who come along.

When heating with any device you are going to have annual costs other than just fuel. Most folks do not do their own service on these devices for a number of reasons. If you have someone else do the work you are looking at $$$ and if you have a service contract you are paying $$$$ for that as well.

You are going to pay anyway and if you have the few parts that are likely to fail along with a few consumables you can do it yourself and not have to wait for someone else to fit it in their schedule or even worse finding out it will take two weeks to get a part.

Now if it would cost you say $1974 in fuel oil and $985 in pellets, and you can replace all of the most likely to fail parts (those with motors attached) for under $300 if you shop wisely. I'd consider that cheap insurance. Incidentally the fuel oil and pellet figures are for my situation based upon actual local prices of both at the start of this heating season.

When things with motors give out you can usually just replace the bearings and put the old one on the shelf as a spare.

Control boards can be expensive but even there you can help ensure that they live a long and useful life by using a quality surge protector.

Your choice, but in any case maintenance cost need to be factored in for all systems.

Well I have some spare parts on hand but luckily have never needed any. You don't need to stock any if you have a backup heat source. All stoves will at sometime break down, just like cars. Once you get into burning pellets it just drives most of us nuts when we hear the oil burner kick in so we fix our own as quickly as possible.

Understand. I have a couple of Ducati superbike that I track I have so many spare parts I can build a complete bike from it. I guest now that I'm getting into pellet stove just 2 weeks I've already have a few spares handy.

I have zero spares, I know my 25 will have no issues this year :fingers crossed:
I am having a carbon build up issue on the end of my auger tube that was never this bad though.
I might have to adjust the auger out a bit into the burn box.

Hello letsblaze

Just pull out the auger and clean the tube and the auger with a wire wheel on your drill or dremel tool. It works great! Then spray down the inside of the tube and auger with "Dry Moly spray" that makes it real slick so pellets will not stick as easily!
I did it to a Harman Advanced recently and now the auger turns like going thru butter!

4. Combustion or Exhaust blower? Original or Upgraded?

i'm having difficulty determining if there are any good options for alternatives to the quad combustion motor in my stove
srv7000-602

the "upgraded" in the above quote is one part of my curiosity.
also price is something i'm interested in.
there is another (locked now) thread showing a $108 fasco motor, but it was criticized for having a sleeve bearing.

hopefully someone can fill me in on whether any viable alternatives exist.

I'll just turn on the oil furnace until parts can be ordered and installed.

The Gleason Avery Open Frame Ball Bearing Motor which is 1.75 Amps is the best choice! That is what I run in my quad and I hardly ever need to clean ashes out of the fire pot!

To find it, Just Google:
low drafter kit quadrafire

And turn on TV to see the FedEx truck that has your parts rolled over somewhere in Texas. Happened to me with a new phone. Needless to say the 3 day service turn into a bit over 2 weeks.

No spares (new here) I just rebuild everything and I've never had a combustion blower gasket since the first time I pulled it, just use rtv and call it good. Nothing ever breaks, it just wears out.... My 'ignitor' is a squeeze bottle of jelled firestarter. Never breaks.

I make my own agitators and eventually will make burn pots too.

Oil tank is full. I can wait.

I honestly have almost no spares other than the ones that came with the used Harman and now the new board. Practice a pretty intense off season cleaning and inspecting of everything.Trying to deplete stock of parts for Countryside. I do have 3 stoves if that counts and each could hold its own against old man winter but would have a cool room or two.

I never kept spare parts for my boiler on hand and that things has lots more stuff that can go wrong with it.

But how available are the parts? I can call around and find most parts for most major home heating units within 30 miles and have it up in probably three hours, next day at latest.

But you also probably didn't have a backup heat source if your boiler died. My boiler IS my backup so the need for extra preparation isn't there. Now if your only source of heat was pellets and you had nothing to fall back on, I get it.

thanks. it looks like i may be stuck with oem though. :(

this shows only the heatilator PS35 (#812-4400) as a match. the part number on my PS50's motor is srv7000-602

i do see you appear to work or be affiliated with east coast hearth. the two OEM motors for the PS35 and PS50 look so similar in photos.
have you ever used that gleason avery as a replacement for the srv7000-602?
is it just that the housings are different and the motors are the same on the OEM parts?

thanks for the help.

Yes in my quad Contour and it is burning so much better! ! !

HHT who owns Quadrafire found a new vendor in China for all their OEM blowers call Huayi.
Their specs are the absolute minimum able to run their pellet burners. I have seen them first hand. The exhaust blower that takes so much time to spin up to speed reminds me of flooring the gas peddle of a voltswagon rabbit and bearly getting across a busy intersection!

Here's my spare part when my stoves breakdown until I can order replacements.

I agree that's my take on it. I have two pellet stoves - great for cleaning one while the other continues to heat. Then I have a wood stove that I have not used since putting the pellets stoves in, propane heater in the attic ready to come down in case the 3 stoves fail and if all that fails I have (2) 4500W 220V construction heaters.... and of course two pickups in garage ready to give me a heated ride to some where warm down south if all that fails. I have no spare parts on hand - just redundant heat systems... but I refuse to have oil heat.... and will not until it goes back down below $2 / gallon. Oh yeah and of course a small gas generator and then the big diesel one for long time outages if the grid goes down..... If all this fails I will probably build a tippie and start a bon fire in it.

ok, at the risk of totally annoying you, the part number for the countour motor (and the heatilator PS35) is 812-4400
and the number for the PS50 motor is srv7000-602. so that still leaves me wondering. i guess if it was supposed to work in the PS50 they would have listed it. i'd buy one if i could verify it would work and was safe. there must be some reason they don't say it replaces the OEM for the PS50.
what's in my stove now shows as 1.04 amps, but that is probably similar to whatever is used in the PS35. i still have a suspicion that they are both the same motor. but i really need verification before i change this out.
i guess i'll ask my dealer. though he will likely say i should get the OEM. i'll try and press him to check if the two heatilators actually use the same motor.
screenshot from eastcoast hearth doesn't list the PS50 (srv7000-602)as one of the stoves that upgrade kit works for.
thanks, Don. i really don't mean to be a PIA about this. but i also am not comfortable just assuming. :)

Pellet stove in the upstairs, Pellet Furnace in the basement, Lp Furnace, Heat Pump, all ready to go. My pellet stoves are multifuel capable will burn corn etc.
Have an extra pellet stove in the shop office could move it to house in a few minutes if necessary.
Have a large generator and a small 1500 watt sitting in the garage.
Spare Parts? Yup I have 3 extra exhaust blower gaskets on hand.

Hi St Earl

The reason it is not listed is a mistake! LOL Not easy to get all the models in there!

As you can see from the pics of each blower they are physically the same.

Thanks for bringing that to my attenstion so I can add that mode in. :)
I am always trying to make things better and certainly appreciate your help on this!

All fixed and Thank-you very much! :)

I had to put a new exhaust blower in an RS a few months ago. The ESP probes also fail on those and then the blower does not shut down. I also like to upgrade them to auto ignition too.

exhaust blower last year, original ESP, why complicate things with auto anything. KISS.
