I use several strategically placed, life like rubber snakes. Scares the hell out of would be wood thieves!

Somehow I don't think rubber snakes at -30 degrees would be plausible. I use several security cams and a GSD. The dog lives a pampered lifestyle sleeping indoors and we have to keep her in after dark so that she doesn't mess with skunks. She got tangled up with a skunk a couple days ago. It's not easy to get the smell off a full size GSD in Winter.

As for the outside pile. I have motion detectors and a dog that doesn't miss much

Get some GO-Jo hand cleaner with out the pumice in it rub into her coat all over rinse- 98% problem resolved and a lot cheaper than fancy pet shop stuff. It is lanolin based won't hurt pups skin .

Nope, probably not! The funny thing is I've never had anyone try to rip me off during the winter only during the summer. There's a state park with a large campground about 2 miles from me and I suspect the would be wood thieves are campers trying to heist a weekend's worth of camp wood. I know I lost a few oak splits last summer that were greener than green. I bet that fool is still trying to get his fire going!;lol

We got lucky as the dog didn't take a direct hit. She must have done a good job of dancing circles around the skunk judging by the footprints we saw in the snow. She only had it on her paws so we managed to sponge bathe her feet.

I've never had a problem with thievery. The wood piles you see in my avatar are close to the road and not visible from my house that is set further back behind trees. Those are not my go to piles, I have a woodshed set even further back for that.
