Is the cast iron top on the blaze king lowerable? That is, can those bolts be screwed in and has anyone done this?

What is the goal? If it is cooking heat, you can just lift off the top to have direct exposure to the stove top.

The bolts are screwed in all the way on mine so the top cannot be lowered, but i have cooked a stew by removing the iron top.

It's just strange to me when viewing/sitting on our sofa with the huge gap in between there cause we painted ours biscuit to match our pipe and I think it looks a little strange with that big, dark gap

Buy some shorter 1/4 inch bolts. It looks like some 3/4 inch long 1/4 inch bolts would lower it some.

We do not endorse any changes to the product as safety tested, I would comment that the catalytic thermometer probe would not fit to the correct positioning behind the catalytic combustor. You could contact Condar and ask if cutting down the length of the probe would be advisable.

If you have the dual fans, you may wish to verify fit with any alteration of the top positioning. Undoubtedly, air flow would also change with or without fans and could influence tested and approved clearances if stove temps change.

Caveat emptor (or in this case owner beware)

I think you're overthinking it. It's a beautiful stove with unmatched performance. You did a great job with the stove pipe. Now sit back and enjoy the heat. Then go to sleep. Wake up to a warm stove. Then go to work. Come home to a warm stove. Then go back to sleep. On the second morning reload the stove.

Add more beer/wine/whisky to that formula. It will look fine soon.

If your really serious about this, paint the part of the flue connector below the surface black again, it would then be less noticeable. Or raise your couch.

Or just realize you have a great stove and get over it.

This gap is not unusual or unique to the Ashford. Take a look at Alderlea stoves or similar styled stoves that vent below a convective trivet top.

Did you use that Stove Bright paint for that? Looks great!
No I actually ordered high heat paint offline and the color is parchment. This is the only way I could have a Blaze King and pass the WAF...

You know, I was just curious before if it could be lowered and I've since gotten used to it. Don't even really notice.

Thanks for chiming in... I was only curious if it could be lowered. Love my BK, long burn times and low burning temps. Having two issues; smoke smell coming from it and not being able to get black off glass (even when burning hot). I'll post in a original thread...
