Anyone able to tell me how to get the upper auger bushing out of a St. Croix Greenfield? It has started to bind up (makes a low growl) and I would like to replace it (along with the lower one) asap. I think that flimsy little Phillips head (inferior fastener:p) probably has something to do with its' removal.
 
Mine was binding too, last year. I cleaned the auger shaft and then the bearing. A bit of high temp grease, and it's running smoothly again. It's probably just gummed up or just dry. Does the auger scrape the channel it's in?
 
Auger isn't scraping, I think the oilite bushing has just become unoiled. Maybe I'll take it apart and try some grease, any suggestions on what type or brand to use?
 
Just something suitable for high temps, nothing really special. I don't remember just what I used, but it's been a year or so, and so far so good. Just remember to get the old cruddy oil/grease/whatever out of there, and clean the auger in that area well.
