Well. I have my wood shed full of splits (HAD it full) once I get some room in there I will split more rounds. Saves me doing it during the spring / summer.

Even if its just a few rounds on the way into the garage, keep's my Fiskar's in Check and freshly polished.

I do it when my world isn't severally frozen. From the responses above I would say that it depends on your location. For me its nice to do it in the spring and fall when its around freezing but in the winter its just a pain in the butt. I have to snow blow parts of my back yard and to have pieces of bark and wood going through the snow blower is a no no for me. Besides once its split I have to find pallets under the snow or try to dig out a space to put down a pallet. I tend to get most of my wood before the leaves come out and split it and stack it as soon as I get it home. If I had mild winters I think it would be a perfect time to split.
