green supreme

Lowe's in Amherst had large back order for GS last month. Clerk told me they were offered their customers Maine Wood Products (Geneva) but they refused and we're holding out for their GS's. I grabbed two tons at the time. As far as I'm concerned, they all provide heat, very little ash, and all of them beat the crap out of dealing with the ash from a wood stove.

I feel the same.. I've looked at full bags, empty bags, up to the light, in the dark haha.. Cannot figure it out.. But at this point, I own them so I guess it doesn't matter if they are the good ones or bad ones, I am stuck with them

I know! The funny thing is that's how I got to buy two tons because they couldn't "get rid of" their Maine's Choice stock. I threw a few bags through last week and they burn great with much less ash than the FSU's.

Based on prior experience I'd only use GS in an emergency.

I'm new to the pellet stove, but I've been happy with my GS. At first it was really ashy, but then I spent some time fine tuning the stove and learning to pay atten to the flame and adjust Air/Feed as necessary and I am much more pleased with the burn of GS now. I needed something and test burned some from HD, TSC and the GS and settled on GS as they were all about the same for me at the time and only 10 minutes from the house. Still looking for a higher end pellet right now but for now GS is keeping my house toasty warm and I haven't run the furnace yet.

I would have to be freezing!

Wait until you try a real pellet! My buddy who is as thrifty as they come (I hope he doesn't see this post) burned Green Supremes for years, bragging how great they were. I gave him 2 bags of Barefoots and his question to me was " what the *^%# did you send me, rocket fuel? He now pays for Vermonts (except this year when I was able to get him a few tons of Somersets) and is now a pellet snob like me.

Stopped by Lowe's in Amherst, NH while my boss was in an adjacent store. They just received 350 tons of Green Supremes selling for 269/ton and none are reserved and also have 20 or so tons of Greene Team available. Nice to no there is no shortage in this area and I can pick some up when needed. Manager explained that the GS are from the Jaffrey, NH plant and they have NO problem whatsoever ordering more and the only issue they have had is lining up the trucking to bring in large orders of pellets.

Very odd. I have been out of stock for over 2 weeks and was recently told to possibly not expect a truck before christmas. How is that Lowes getting so many pellets. Going to check their inventory tomorrow at work at kinda question that. Because also that manager is full of crap... he has no control over ordering. All orders are processed through a buyer at the corporate office, just like every other product in the store. Not only that but 350 tons? That's over 15 trucks, no Lowes store on the planet has room to store 15 truckloads of pellets anywhere on site.

Well, don't know what to say other than I walked among the pallets and the stash was significant, one might even say even hoard-proof. I could have heard the number wrong and wasn't buying anyway, just killing time and obviously didn't count them all but I roughed out 100 pallets but due to snow and not wearing boots I couldn't walk the whole area. They no longer store them in the back of the complex due to theft so they are all in the garden center section of the store, which is outside but partially under a roof and all behind locked chain link fence. None were spoken for. They did say the same thing you did, trucking is a logistical issue but they are not located far from the plant, which is down the road from my house. If I go by there in the next couple of days, I'll take and post a pic.

I'm just pissed, lol. If they really have that many. I'm tired of getting dumped on by customers for not having any. I'm the one people complain to even though I can't do anything about it. If another store is getting truck after truck and I'm being told maybe in a month I'll see one or two... I'm angry, lol. Glad I bought most of my needed pellets early.

I'm confused, too. I read where some places are having great difficulties getting pellets while other places seem not to have a problem. Even this small grocery store up the road stocks two tons at a time plus some loose bags inside and every time the pallets sell out, they have two replacement pallets within a few days. I don't understand why this is but I do know that I am enjoying heating with pellets for the first time.

If they did have 350 tons, it seems they would not be limiting sales to 100 bags...

Part of it is probably the mill and the company size. For example companies the size of Home Depot and Lowes need to buy pellets from the biggest mills around because it keeps costs down, they can supply more stores, etc. Meanwhile grocery stores or mom and pop type stove dealers are buying pellets from much smaller mills that can't produce enough pellets to gain large accounts such as a Lowes or Depot. I seem to be getting told (locally when I call around) it's those smaller mom and pop type places selling pellets that don't seem to be having as much of an issue with supply... but they're also often selling at a higher price than we are. Not much of a higher price, but still higher none the less. And these local stores near me some of them are differing the consumer cost based on payment method i.e you pay more if you use credit because they can't absorb credit card fees like multi billion dollar companies can

The opinion in this thread is way out in the outfield. Big box stores set a price point with suppliers and the quality is usually mediocre at best. I purchase pellets from actual pellet dealers. The pellets cost more and produce more heat with far less ash.

I doubt very much that they have 17.5 tractor trailer loads worth of GS on hand .. Just sayin

Eh, not necessarily. I bought the "premium" pellets from the dealer where I bought my stove, and they were the worst pellets ever. Dirty as hell, tons of ash after just half a bag. Big box stores do set price points with suppliers... but for pellets we also have 10-15 different suppliers per store. The prices aren't necessarily all identical per brand but to avoid confusion in the store and for inventory accounting purposes all pellets are under the same SKU # and sold at the same price. I get pellets from as far away as Kentucky (Somerset) and as close as Deposit NY which is no more than a couple hours from me. It costs a LOT more to buy Somersets, then the more local mills pellets. I've had great success and horrible success with pellets from Lowes. There's nothing wrong with "box store pellets". There are dealers who buy pellets from the same mills Lowes and Depot get pellets from too. Lignetics, Somerset and New England to name a few.

Well, maybe the guy was pulling my leg but there were piles of pallets and I'll be down that way tomorrow to satisfy my curiosity about this.

What premium pellet did you purchase from your dealer that were terrible. The problem today is the reclassification of pellets by the PF institute allows a broader range of pellets to be put into this category. Of course a member of New England pellets sat on the board when this was hashed out. I only purchase premium pellets for shoulder season, look for super premium grade and It will not disappoint!

As promised, I made the rounds and visited Lowe's (Amherst) and HD (Merrimack & Manchester. Obviously, the person at Lowe's misspoke the other day. As of this morning, they had 83 tons of Green Supreme and four tons of Greene Team available for sale. As another poster pointed out, they allow a two-ton purchase. Keeps the "I bought another 10 tons" crowd at bay, I guess. Then I traveled a mile or so down the road and visited HD in Merrimack. They have as of late this morning 152 tons for sale. Heaters, Greene Supreme and bags labeled "Premium Wood Pellets". I don't know what they really are and didn't get the UPC. I picked up a couple of open bags of Heaters to try then, drove fifteen miles north to HD in Manchester, NH. There, they had, as of noon, 165 tons of pellets available for sale, primarily Heaters and Fireside Ultras and I believe some Green Supreme and there were other bags already sold and awaiting pickup. She advised they are now getting shipments every week and have carried Stove Chows, Blazers and AMF Ultras but was not sure what brands are inbound.

So, three box stores in southern NH within 16 miles of each other collectively have 400 tons available as of today. Not bad for those of us who know they'll need another ton to make it to Spring.

I feel like my dealer ripped me off this year. They normally carry MWP for $269/ton, but they were sold out and pushed this new pellet called Traefire, which were $305/ton. They swore they were better than the MWP, and I bought 2 tons of them. Basically, I have 2 tons of crap. They don't burn hot, they are super ashy, and there are pellets that are unacceptably long. They are so bad that I cannot burn my stove on lower settings or it goes out. I found some of the NH Green Supreme at my local HD, and I bought 6 bags. The difference is incredible, my stove actually put out real heat, and the ash was very minimal compared to the Traefire. I still have 1 1/4 ton of the Traefire, and I am disgusted about it. I would buy a ton of the NH Green Supreme if they had it by the ton at my HD.
