Feeling the Heat

Living in a flood plain with a high water table, I am consistently worried about the sump pump failing. I finally decided to buy a WI FI video surveillance camera for my sump pit. Best Buy happen to have a promo where you get an additional camera. So I have the second one monitoring the pellet stove in case it runs out of pellets or gets an error code. Now I can see everything from my smartphone. My wife thinks I am crazy... I am starting to wonder now...

Now you can feel warm and toast no matter where you are! ... Ha ha

My buddy says people hack into webcams hoping for a show... a sump pump and a pellet stove; they will be disappointed lol

haha! I was thinking woodstove and the other propped up to see the activity at my birdfeeders. Exciting footage!

I also have a wifi cam setup looking at the stove, my wife was worried that it was going to burst into flames when we aren't home. But we do have two dogs that are in crates during the day so that's what she was worried about, i guess in the event of a fire there could be a quick call to the FD around the corner.

Get up, stoke fire, eat cold food, cut split stack more wood and stoke fire, eat half cooked half burnt food, stoke fire, sleep and do it all over if the hobble you lived in didn't burn down or you didn't freeze to death by morning:) Sounds like a bad moose hunting trip I had.

I also worry about my sump pump failing so I bought an insteon hub starter kit and a water sensor. The kit comes with two lamp modules to remotely turn on and off a lamp. You can also set them on a schedule. If the water sensor detects water on the floor near the sump pump it sends out emails.

You can add a lot to the system like window and door sensors, smoke detectors, garage door openers, motion detectors, IP cameras, door locks etc. Then the automation part is neat. You can have devices trigger things on/off etc.

Dear God. Only this group.

"My own personal yuletide firelog channel...lol. Plus I can give her sh!t if she forgets to fill hopper :)"

Dude, I'd moon you every single time I filled that hopper.

"My buddy says people hack into webcams hoping for a show..."

Oh, they'd get a show, alright. _g

"Good cameras. I have four of one and two of the other. Running around the clock for three years now."

What on earth are you doing over there, Brother Bart???

Hahaha, now you're going to give people ideas. Next thing you know, someone is going to post a thread asking to see everyone's stove operating via webcam.

I hope you broadcast that last part about filling the hopper! No pictures > not true. :) When you wake up from the coma, she just might forgive you.........

Can't remember which member it was that had 4 cams at his house for security. Had a work crew there changing out windows and reviewed footage at the end of the day ... one of the installers had taken a wander through the dresser drawers in the bedroom. Greeted the next AM with the squad car in the drive. Worked well for him but...

Still not sure if I would trade my privacy for protection;hm

We also have a dog and a cat... although I don't believe they ever leave the couch all day long.
