An upside down fridge?

Yep.. with my old Jeep muffler as the exhaust..

I love re-purposing old junk for such projects.
Is the fridge all metal inside or is there plastic?
I assume you're smoking at a low temp but isn't plastic off-gassing a concern?

This fridge is probably from the 60's.. I stripped what little plastic there was out. Removed the steel liner and insulated behind it with roxul, then put the liner back in. I flattened out the aluminum freezer box and it's mounted inside on the steel liner to make an enclosed box. So it's a box inside the refrigerator & insulated on 5 sides with roxul, with the bottom open (I cut the bottom part of the steel liner out). Then there's 2 burners in the freezer, one for heat and has a pot of water for moisture, the other for smoking the chips. In summer I can get it up to 350 inside, cold days like this maybe 270.. I have a current limiter on the big electric heater so I can adjust the heat. So it's cruzin between 235 and 250 right now.

For future expansion I put a steel pipe in the side, I'll use this to pipe in smoke someday so I can use it as a cold smoker too.

The turkey turned out real good.. but the duck/goose sausage was FABULOUS!

You must have a very understanding wife!
And with a good sense of humor.. she thought it was funny till I smoked the turkey two years ago.. now she begs for it.

And I thought my smoker is weird...
