I think a ball hitch mounted on my 6 x 10' frame rail would work great for transport in the trailer. Then just tie the back end down once the front is secured by the ball hitch.

That is a good idea, if I had to transport mine more I would try to fashion a car dolly to fit my splitter.

Like others, I don't like the fact that I can't see mine behind my truck! If I were just going down the road no problem, but any further it goes in the back. I have seen some being towed take some pretty wicked bounces.
 
Turn the gas shutoff off and run it out of gas. I hydro locked a rental after a 1/2 an hour ride home on some rough back roads. It's not wide has no springs and shocks.
