How many cords?

3-5 cords here depending on the winter, although if things keep going that way this year it will be way less than that.

I burn a Quad 3100i and heat about 1300 of a 2200 square foot house.

I'm also burning Red Fir which is considered a softwood but in reality is close to most hardwoods in heating value.

Red Fir in this area goes for about $175-195 a cord but it's also readily available to cut yourself.

A cord sells for about $60-85 here in Iowa. That will be hardwood only.
I heat a 1000 sq/ft home and go through about 3 cords.

Hey, I am also on the south shore. That seems to be the going price for a cord of seasoned. Make sure you ask the seller when it was split... The Green Connection says that they split back in last december, so that is who we used. A lot of the local sellers call seasoned wood trees that were cut in january, but not split until less than a month ago. You will not get a good burn from that short of a seasoning.

I am planning on burning nights and weekends for the next few months. I am hoping that my cord and a half is enough to make it through. But at 250 a cord, its still a hell of alot cheaper than filling up the oil tank at 3$ a gallon.

Sounds high to me. I can buy seasoned Oak for $150 per cord. But it all depends on where you live I guess.

I go through 3 cords of mostly Oak, burning 24/7 to heat 1800sq ft.

I guess I am cheapskate. I am lucky enough to either get trees at work or have tree service guys bring it to my door to cut and split. But I will burn any hardwood, Ash, Hickory, Walnut, Oak.

Good wood here goes for between $175 and $200, with multiple cord discounts. This year I got 4+ cords for $700 - and very good mixed hardwood. I am lacking some larger pieces for longer burns unfortunately.

I go through approx. 4 cords, maybe 5 depending on how much I use the fireplace.

I've never had to buy wood, but I go through about 3-4 cords in a normal winter here in Jersey.

I pay $195 a cord delivered ($65 a face cord).

Last year was my first year burning, and I went through 4 cord burning 24*7.

I should point out that due to some major draft problems and wood at the beginning of the season that probably wasn't as dry as it should have been, I probably wasn't burning very efficiently. I hope to burn less than this this year.

I spent $400 for about 7 cord.

I stand corrected, it would be a face cord. Assuming that a face cord is roughly the size of a pickup truck?

300.00 for six cords of log lenth red oak,white oak,black locust and ash.

yup in MA the going rate is 250.00 per cord

however i found a company that will sell 7 cords worth of logs for $350.00 in Walpole MA

i would guess i have 4 cords ready for this season

Yikes.. lotta moolah for wood. They better stack it and then hang around for the rest of the winter to load your stove for that price.

Full cords delivered go for $120-160 here in S. Jersey. We go through about 3 cord (cut & split our own) but we winter in Florida from mid Jan-May.

I paid $185/cord and got all red maple. Hate Red maple. I've been spoiled burning nearly just oak. Lighting a fire lasted 8-9 hours and raised my house temp 9-12F. This red maple is over in 3 hours and raises my house temp only 5F. At the current amazing rate I'm having to burn red maple to make a dent it looks like I'm going to hit 5-6 cords this year. The oak I went through only 3 cords.

I bought some tree length for $90 a cord with a six cord minimum here in central Maine. I would say 90 % of it is sugar maple.

Sugar maple is darn good stuff, same heat output as oak. Wonder why sugar maple is so dense and has same heat as oak, but red maple is more like pine. You'd think they'd be a bit more similar.

Hmmm... not a huge difference depending upon the type of oak. Red maple puts out 23.2 Mbtus/cord while black oak and white oak put out 22.6 and 29.1 Mbtus respectively.

But white oak is KING as far as I am concerned.

Not familiar with black oak, most charts I'm familiar with have red maple around 13 million btu's/cord recoverable and red & white oak 17 & 18. According to specs it should have about 25% less heat but the red maple I got I'm burning like it's paper. Light a fire, get it going, slow the burn down, and in 2-3 hours it's done. Decided maybe there's something wrong with my unit, loaded it up with oak and it burned the oak in 8 hours and heated the house up 11F so, it's burning oak like it always has so gotta be the red maple I got. Maybe it's balsa maple, or from a particularly non-dense tree I hope the rest of my red maple isn't like this.
