I've noticed over the past few days an increase in private pellet sale advertisements on Craigslist. You'll read of several reasons, such as no room, stove doesn't like them, my stove broke, I switched to xxxxx heat, I don't need this many, yada, yada, yada. Me thinks as the season progresses and folks are finding pellets readily available in most areas in stores, these "entrepreneurs" are starting to sweat a bit as we get closer to the end of the year. Need money for Christmas boys? I really believe that with some restraint now by folks still needing some pellets to finish out the season, the prices of these sellers are going to collapse. Just a theory but I'm going to hold off buying my last ton and see what happens.

It's not even winter yet and no one knows whether this will be another brutally cold winter like last year. If it is pellets could be in short supply again by Feb-March 2015. Last year when the shortage hit a lot of price gouging was going on on craigslist but it seems too early for that to be happening yet. Anyway the laws of supply/demand will rule as far as how successful these craigslist pellet sales will be. I made sure to have enough pellets for this season just in case it is another really cold one. It sucked having to scramble for pellets last year although I did luck out in getting another 1.5 tons just before the shortage hit. This year, no worries.

Most of the ones I saw on CL, were at or below the paid price.
Leads me to believe that at this point, the ones that are selling a ton,
are selling just that. A ton... for whatever reason..

I don't care what the calendar says. No power for 24 hours due to snow, breaking the car out of a ice cube, dog not amused by the skating rink placed on the deck, and multiple nights in single digits temp. It's Winter, the calendar is wrong.

Then let's hope for an early spring!

I checked the other day and agree. There certainly are more pellet posts out there now vs. a month or so ago.

saw an ad on CL today guy is moving .. Lignetics for 200 a ton he has 3 tons that's below retail here where they are 7 dollars a bag and 300 a ton.. If I had the room I'd be all over this

If I live closer to Pine Bush would add to my stash. drive would cost more then the savings.

I'm very near there but my garage is full :(

There's a guy in the Boston area selling some North American Pellets for 10 a bag.

Some people have no shame.

I wonder if all of this is related to the cost of gas falling 30% since June.

Could be. I saw the gouge ad for $10 dollar bags, but the seller was at $12 last week. I may respond to a couple of the ads ($4 bags) to try a few more brands before zeroing in on another 1/2 ton to finish up the season.
