Prob silver maple......

Well that's two different photos in a week of scrounges and both got ruled silver Maple. They do look similar but the weight difference is huge. Is that normal. Same size split from different trees of same type be incredibly different weights?

I've got logs from the same tree that have major weight difference. In my experience silver maple holds water but gives it up quickly. It all depends on time of year it was cut down and how dead it was before being cut. If you are scrounging in the suburbs you will find lots of silver maple. It grows fairly quickly and provides lots of shade so they were planted in subdivisions as they were being built.

The pictures on my cellphone look really yellow. And I don't know if that's lighting?
But not all the things that would say maple to me are there. I really dont feel confident saying maple on this one.
But then the last pic of the bark looks like it could be. But bark is hard for me.

Sis, that top split is screaming maple.....image.jpg
