Hi Everyone. Haven't posted on Hearth.com in quite some time. Hope everyone is doing well.
Anyway, I could use a little advice on which way to go with my oil to gas conversion.
Here's my set up:
I currently have a 2006 Dunkirk Empire 2 hot water boiler that heats our 2300 sq. ft. home and provides our hot water. Probably in the 80ish% efficiency.
Options I've looked into so far:
Option 1. Replace just the gun for about $3600 and keep hot water set up.
Option 2. Replace the gun and add a Super Stor for an additional $2400-$2800 depending on the model - glass tank vs. stainless steel tank. Total $6000-$6400
Option 3. Replace the entire unit with a high-efficiency Navian combi-boiler (heat and h/w) for $6200 and after getting a $700 rebate from the gas company, it brings down the cost to $5500. With a little luck, I could possibly sell old oil boiler and 330 gallon tank for maybe $500 for a little more savings.
Option 4. Replace the gun and add a 40 gallon gas hot water heater to my system and shut the boiler down in the warmer months.
The guy who suggested the Navian said I wouldn't see much of a savings by adding a Super Stor. He likened it to heating another room in the house.
Currently thinking that option 2 might be NOT the way to go due to cost compared to new boiler.
I plan to get more estimates and advice from some local installers, but I thought I would pick the brain of a few people here.
