I have the regular 6 ply chaps. saved my leg a little over a week ago...
Happened in a split nano-second, with the chain slowing down. I was at he bottom of a cut on a downed oak, and was stepping away. Finger off the throttle. Took a small step to the left, but hidden under the leaves and debris was a small rock, which caused me to loose a TINY BIT of footing - but enough to make the blade with the slowing chain kiss my knee. You can follow the straight line to the right and left of the visible fibers.
I'll be buying a second pair - even though I've managed to repair these.

Well. I used to be a no chap person until I performed surgery on my left knee with the 075 a few months ago. Same thing, slipped, finger off the throttle chain slowing. Took 51 stitches to close it and I got a look at my kneecap and yes, the bone is grey white, not white. Walked in the house and told my wife I cut myself. I looked down and my boot was filling with blood, pants were soaked, quick trip to the ER. Problem with a 75 running a 28" bar is it takes some time for the chain to slow down.....
The triage doctor was amazed at how clean the cut was, no ragged edges, in fact she had to trim very little tissue away. I told her I had just sharpened the loop. 404 opens a nice cut. I didn't even need any novacane. No nerve endings on your kneecap flesh. Got to watch. Did a nice sew job real straight and neat, leave it to a gal to do a good job.
I was pretty stiff for about 2 weeks took some serious antibiotics but no pain, just stiff. I came about a <administrative delete - BB> away from reconstructive surgery, I just scraped the kneecap.
My wife got me a pair of the orange competition chaps (7 layer Kevlar from Baileys). I have strict orders when bucking to wear them or else. Now, up in a tree I don't wear them because most times I'm cutting above my waist anyway and I always use pico low pro chain and leave the rakers up. No point in getting a face full of chainsaw. Been using my little, but mighty Tanaka top handle, love that saw.

Mine are blaze orange so my wife can look out a window and see if I have them on..... A happy wife is a happy life.
An update Labonville's is now 25% until Christmas no coupons and I expect they exclude power equipment (they normally do)
